How do I get from Detroit to New York City, going through Canada?

Everyone says this is faster than going through the U.S. the whole way. But the maps/driving directions websites (google, mapquest, yahoo) are giving me stupid routes. Does anyone know the quickest common knowledge route???

1. Ask a Mexican. They got that traveling shit down packed. Don't forget you poncho and checiltas.
2. Cross from Detroit into Windsor. Follow the Hwy 401 east in Canada. Then Hwy 403 east to the QEW. Watch for signs when you get near NY state crossings. Get on I90 east or the NY state thruway east and that will run you right down to NY city.
