can a car gps accept topo map programs?

will garmin nuvi 255W take a topographic map program. the same ones used in a handheld GPS?

1. Unlike a PDA (Pocket PC) that runs on Windows Mobile, a car GPS, also called Car Nav or PND (Personal Navigation Device) runs on Windows CE, which is not open for the installation of other programs. Not that it is impossible; the aviation GPS flight planner and moving map program PocketFMS can be installed on many PNDs. But not all. Garmin and TomTom are known to make their implementation of Windows CE close to other software.
2. All Garmin devices compatible with "Mapsource" software can use US-Topo ... please check the owner's manual for your unit.
