I want a satellite image of the Earth with a shadow moving across its face in real time to show night time?
Specific but I'm sure they are out there - anyone have a link?

- The problem is the satelites orbit the earth so they can't just hover in one spot really.
- Look for "Geoclock".... you might be able to download it for free.
- This free link below is an awesome spaceflight simulator. I have been using it for years and it never fails to amaze me. The learning curve is quite steep, but you can pre-select a scenario that will put you in orbit above the earth. The graphics are taken from real orbiting satellites and they are oustanding. The cloud patterns covering the earth are never the same -- each flight will show different weather over the continents and oceans. You can even see the cloud shadows on the land masses. The stars are real as well - it is what you would see in orbit around the earth, thousands or tens of thousands of them (you can select how many). On the nightside you can see a clear outline of the U.S. just by tracing the city lights, especially Florida against the dark Gulf waters. And when you start coming around to the day side, the sun's first rays light up the rivers and lakes, turning them gold. I am amazed this thing is for free. - I believe they are now taking paying passengers on the space shuttle. And digital cameras are very small and light now! (By the way, if you mean the Earth's own dark side - that bit which is in shadow - its edge, the bit that is "moving across its face", or surface, is called the terminator - the dividing line between the light and the dark parts of a planetary body). Or did you mean the shadow of the Moon (solar eclipse), or other satellite? But anyway, Eaglefly's got the right button, gets my vote! (Know any like that for Mac OSX please, Eaglefly? Anyone?) Note: Mike Oxm, they most certainly can "hover in one place" as you put it. It's called 'geo-stationary orbit'. Probably the best example of which are those that facilitate satellite television. (They are what all those little dish aerials are pointing at!) You'd be hard-put to spot their shadows, though.
