In this photo of a rock quarry in Irwindale, CA, was the water placed in there, or was it naturally occurring?

I think they put the water there and dredge it for more efficiency. My girlfriend says the water is there naturally and then they decided to use dredges. They are mining for rock used in roads and construction as I understand it.

  1. Thats a settling pond for runoff rainwater to seep into the bedrock. The water moves downstream in an aquifer and gets cleaned up. It can then be pumped out downstream later in the year and used for groundwater purposes. So to answer your question directly. It was engineered to go there. The water is from rain but it is not there all year long.
