how to a topo map able to express slope and elevation?

Public Comments

  1. A topo map has a scale, so the horizontal distance can be calculated. Each countour line is an elevation. The closer the contours means the higher the elevation change over a smaller horizontal, hence closer contours equals steeper slope. Once you have he elevation change and the horizontal distance, you can calculate the slope. rise / run
  2. Basically by the distance between the lines. The closer they are the steeper the slope and the further they are away from each other the more gentler the slope
