Aerial View Maps

Is aerial photography used much in scientific research today?

It makes sense it was used in the past. Also, I'm not necessarily saying it is not used today, but what are some examples? I would think that today most images are just taken by satellite.

1. I think satellites are used more than anything else for research. Check out google earth. I can see the bar-b-q in your backyard ! They may use a plane to back up the evidence they got by satellite.
