Sigma 85mm f/1.4 for night aerial photography?

Now I am on a budget so no recommending anything over $1000. I know that there are better lenses out there but bang for the buck what would you recommend?

  1. I can totally relate to you here. I have also been agonizing over whether or not to buy this lens. What keeps holding me back is the hit or miss quality control of Sigma lenses. Read the customer reviews here. There are many more reviews on the Sigma for the Canon, but the lens should function the same no matter what the camera mount: http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/search?Ntt=SIGMA+85MM&N=0&InitialSearch=yes Also, I have searched every review I can find on this lens and it is always the same thing. When the lens is good, it is very good, but there are ALWAYS problems with the lens when people get a bad one. I just cannot bring myself to spend $900 on a lens that may, or very well may NOT, be a good lens. Even when the lens is a good one, it is still not very sharp wide open, and does not really get sharp until about f4. You can use f2 effectively though if you apply some post processing sharpening to the photo. The lens I really want is the Canon 85 1.2L, but it is $2000. However, I believe I would rather save my money and get the Canon rather than take a chance on the Sigma and deal with the lack of sharpness wide open. All I can suggest you do is put the Sigma into Google and read EVERYTHING you can find on it. The mixed reviews might prevent you from buying it. steve
