What is the worth of the 490th Aerial Allied Air Attack WWII photos worth (all originals)?

I have several of the 490th Bombardment Air Attack of WWII photos that are Original photos, most of these photos say confidential or restricted on them, or say Official photo of the U.S. Army Air Force, even have several negatives, pictures of bombers with nose art on the front.

  1. I don't believe you will find a buyer for your pictures. The only possible exception might be the nose art of the bombers. I certainly hope you know more about the targets and the names of the planes with the nose art than what you have given today. What you have are not really "collectible" items. Unless the collection is of a high value target, Hitler's home, bunker, a concentration camp or of Dresden as such, you might find a collector. You will have to research for collectors of what you have. The branding of them as official, confidential and restricted will only infer that someone in your family didn't respect the job they had been given. This decreases any real value they may have. From the 490th Bombardment Group you say, umm it is an inactive branch of the old Army Air Corps. You might find a survivor of the active group that might offer you a small sum. So they could submit the collection to their rightful owners for the honor of a brass plate with their name on it, in a US Air Force Museum. My father was a member of the 8th Air Force Group if I find a private collector with his picture marked as you claim, without a release by the Department of Defense...I'ld sue. It is hard enough to watch such released photos on news/history channels knowing my dad may pop up. I would recommend first you find out exactly what you have if you don't know. Visit your local pilot training school with some of the nose art shots from there take your clues as they introduce you to possible contacts as well as possible collectors. To get any money it will take time and a lot of effort. It would likely be best that once you make friends at your local pilot training school, you actually donate them to one of the USAAF museums. I know of 3 in Ohio, Florida, and the Air Academy in Colorado. Get your name on that brass plate. Now for the nose art pictures you might want to start selling copies of them from an online site. Dad flew in the Milk Run. Have you a picture of that? I would likely buy a glossey 5x7 or if really cool 8x10 photo of it at a reasonable price. Likewise with other family members of those planes. So, your fortune is more likely in the legal pictures of bomber nose art than in target photos more than 50 years old. http://www.worldlingo.com/ma/enwiki/en/490th_Bombardment_Group Some places you might find help in finding collectors or find interested in the collection for display. www.airforcemuseum.com/ http://www.eglin.af.mil/library/factsheets/factsheet.asp?id=6339
  2. To a historian they are invaluable. You might consider at least donating copies to your local university, museum, or military museum. Just a thought.
