what size weather balloon will enable me to lift a .75kg payload not very high at all.?
I am looking to do aerial photography and I am wondering what size of weather balloon I should use to lift a .75kg payload to about 30-150m while tethered to myself. I would appreciate the mass of the weather balloon and the approx. inflated volume. thank you

- The density of dry air at STP is about 1.20kg/m^3, while that of helium is 0.18kg/m^3, so each m^3 of helium will produce a buoyancy uplift of 1.02kg wt (1kg wt = g N). Call this 1kgwt So to lift 0.75kg you will need about 0.75 m^3 of helium. I do not know what the weight of a balloon of this size would be, but if it is 0.25kg (probably excessive), about 1m^3 would be right for the volume. Note that STP corresponds to a temp of 0C. At a higher temp (say 20C) the densities will be less and therefore more volume will be needed for the same lift. Multiply the volume by (273 + C)/273 to correct for this where C is the centigrade temperature. You can also make a correction for pressure difference from the standard 101.3kPa. Multiply volume by 101.3/P where P is the ambient atmospheric pressure. Had you thought about using a kite ? Much easier and cheaper .....
