  1. The answer, unfortunately, is more like a "What you can't do"... Basic privileges and limitations are in 61.133, including: a) Privileges —(1) General. A person who holds a commercial pilot certificate may act as pilot in command of an aircraft— (i) Carrying persons or property for compensation or hire, provided the person is qualified in accordance with this part and with the applicable parts of this chapter that apply to the operation; and (ii) For compensation or hire, provided the person is qualified in accordance with this part and with the applicable parts of this chapter that apply to the operation. The key is the last sentence "apply to the operation"... This means that to fly for hire, you will either have to go to work for an FAA authorized operation, or set one up for yourself. One exception to this would be freelance flight instruction. AFAIK, that is not restricted under FAR 61. That means that if you want to carry passengers for hire, you will need to be certified by the Feds according to FAR 119 and 121/135 as appropriate. The FAA publishes guides on how to obtain their approval for different operations. Their guide for banner towing is linked below: http://www.faa.gov/library/manuals/aviation/media/faa-fs.pdf
  2. It's explained in part 119.1.
  3. most pilots are confused as to what operations pt 91 applies to. so here's a shocker. PT 91 APPLIES TO ALL CIVIL AIRCRAFT OPERATIONS. yep, 121 or 135 or 125 might also apply but part 91 applies to every flight.
  4. It is not there. What is there is the fact that you can do any "for hire" job with your aircraft or any other aircraft.
