Where can I see a live satellite image of my house online?
Okay, I had to leave my home because of Hurricane Gustav, and I want to see what my neighborhood looks like. Is there a place online that I can look.... that's free?

- You can't There are no live satellite feeds available to anyone except the CIA and military. Google Earth is made of still photos taken over a long span of time. Your best bet is to check for news stories with arial photos and videos
- You won't see any "live" satellite feeds over your area. Commercial imagery satellites (GeoEye for example) are in an orbit that takes images of the entire world, so they aren't continuously monitoring a single region. Services like Google Maps, Microsoft Terraserver, or Yahoo Maps contract to purchase the imagery at regular intervals, but not necessarily on a daily basis. I don't know the frequency of the updates off hand unfortunately. As the first reponsed suggested, consider looking at aerial photos for a good check. Another option would be to look at commercial satellite image websites. For natural disasters, they sometimes feature imagery of the affected area.
- As the first answer says you cannot. Only certain government agencies have access to real time views. It would be too dangerous to make these available to everyone. Someone could watch for you and your family going out and rob you knowing you were not there. Hope all is well with your home, I am a UK jazz fan and I feel for the people of New Orleans. Good luck.
