Why does your MAPS always give longer by miles and longer by time directions?

I just got directions from your Maps site and from Mapquest. Mapquest gives me 1097.82 miles for 17 hrs. 37 mins. to go from my house to my sons house. Your Maps gives me 1205.5 miles for 19 hrs. 39 mins. Your site is not the most direct. Why? Go back to your old MAPS FORMAT it was alot easier.
