went to google earth and it's trying to charge me.

1. you went to the wrong place. google earth offers free earth and a pay earth. try again.... I'll provide a link for you. here is the EULA for the free download of earth. http://earth.google.com/download-earth.html but you can also try this place. http://www.flashearth.com
2. Odd. Go to Google maps and type in the location - you can switch from map view to satellite view. You can also do this in mapquest.
3. Well if you want free satellite images you can get it from Hubble. The Hubble Space Telescope sweeps around the Earth once every 97 minutes. It could be on the other side of the planet right now ... or it could be passing directly overhead. I hope I helped I will give you a link to there gallery.
