  2. If you are asking which algorithm to use to align digital aerial photographs to make a map, then there are many. I don't think in most cases fiducial marks are necessary because actual features of the land act as registration points. You might have some trouble in places like desert where the scenery from one frame to the next seems identical to the human eye, but I suspect software can correct for that. There are many, many, many scientific papers written on this topic. You will get upwards of 20,000 responses.
