Aerial View Maps

I took aerial photographs using a disposable camera, kite, wire hanger ... How did I do it?

There was one other common household object I used as a timer. No electronics / electricity was involved. The kite only had one string. What was it and how did I do it? Rubber bands WERE used (sorry, I forgot to mention it) but I did not use silly putty as the timer as in the link. I used something else as a timer.
