What is that area on the map of Chicago that is not in the city? There's an area surrounded by Chicago-in the Northwest, right by O'Hare--that doesn't seem to be part of the city. When looking at a map of 77 community areas, it doesn't have a number. And I've seen police maps that have the area blacked out with the words "not in city" over it. What is there, and why isn't it part of Chicago?
Looking for a photo worthy dry cleaner store front in the city of chicago? I'm looking for a store front that can be use in composited image. The end result is a dry cleaners so either that or a store front that could be altered to look as such. It should be very nice and classic looking with an old world sort of feel. Does anyone know of any such place in chicago. I'm looking through google maps at the moment and haven't really come up with a great place. Thanks! Please include an address or intersection. Must be in chicago.
What Chicago suburbs get their drinking water from the City of Chicago? My son wants to do his science fair project on different municipalities and their quality of water. We are trying to get information about the water supply and distribution system for northeast Illinois. I've read that over 100 suburbs get their water from the Chicago system, but I can't find a list or a map (there may be homeland security concerns with posting this information on-line). Do you know where this information is on-line (we are interested in and working on off-line sources as well)?

How can Chicago have the Olympics in 2016 when we don’t allow firearms in the city? Don’t they have shooting in the Olympics? Wouldn’t Daley have to repeal the HIGHLY UNCONSTITUTIONAL LAW in regards to no one but Police and Military Personnel being able to even so much as possess a firearm for the Olympics? Just HAVING a firearm of ANY kind is illegal in Chicago City Limits… So just having the teams land at O’Hare means that they are automatic felons… (Since O’Hare is part of Chicago. Look at a map of Chicago and see how they made THAT happen! LOL) But seriously… With the way the laws are in Chicago right now… To even OWN a firearm means you are committing a felony, which means that you can no longer legally carry a firearm in the rest of the US, since felons have their 2nd amendment rights revoked… And if Daley makes an acceptation for the Olympic people… Then that opens up all sorts of grounds for teams and clubs to legally get a waver as well… Either way… Daley’s dreams of having the 2016 Olympics would be dashed on the rocks because he would have to choose between the Olympics and his beloved anti-gun laws… Opinions? I'm not saying that they would shoot HUMANS... Shooting is an Olympic sport... You have to have guns to shoot... Be it a sport or something illegal... The ban is for ANYONE other then cops and military. So to be able to do their sport... They will be automatically violating the ban on firearms. I DO NOT think they will shoot people... But a full ban is a full ban and if you give an acceptation to one group, it will lead to more.
What is the cheapest city to fly into Europe from the USA? I've been looking for a website I saw a couple months back where you entered the Origin city, Chicago, in my case, and then a map was displayed with prices to different cities in Europe on the map. I saw the price over the city location on the Europe map. Does anyone know what website is that? What is the cheapest city to fly into Europe, Western or Eastern now? Thanks!

Chicago? North Chicago? Illinois? City? Residents? Questions? Just answer what you know. Additional information is always appreciated. =) If you were to look down at a map of America what direction would Illinois be? North East? I'm not sure. What direction is Chicago? Is North Chicago a big city like Chicago? What is Chicago and North Chicago like? What is the weather like each season? If you live there, do you like it? Do people mostly walk and take public transportation similar to New York? What are the people like there? Thanks! ☼
What city can you see on the approach to O'hare Airport to the north? If you are on the approach to O'Hare airport and you are headed west from the lake, then turn south for final, you can see a city north of Chicago on the lake with a cluster of skyscrapers. I looked at the map and thought it could only be Milwaukee, but that seems to be too far north to be able to be seen on the low-altitude approach. What city could it be?
Does anyone have a map of Lower Wacker Drive in Chicago, IL? I am new in Chicago area I come into the city on 290 each day. I just discovered lower wacker drive as a good short cut into downtown but I am looking for a map showing exactly where you can enter and exit it going in both directions. Please let me know if you can help this underground road can be a little complicated.
How would one have gone from New York City to Flagstaff Arizona in 1940? I am helping make a fan-made Indiana Jones point and click game. My job is to make the map scenes. The first one I am working on is starting in New York City and ending in Flagstaff Arizona. I am guessing that from New York one would fly to Chicago, then Dallas, then Phoenix and then drive to Flagstaff. I want to be accurate. What route would Indy have taken?

Where would be best to live in Chicago? My wife and I are each 25 years old, she'll be going to school at St. Xavier (near Oaklawn) and I'll be going to school at Midwestern (near Downers Grove). We would like to live between the two schools, but the highway system is hard to judge by google maps. We'd also like to live as close to the city (in a safe neighborhood) as possible. Any recommendations?
Where can I get specific instructions on navigating my way around Chicago? Something online would be ideal. I already have a paper map but have trouble understanding the city's layout. Something that could help me with some of the basic rules would be great. I've lived here just over a year, know the main streets but still get lost constantly. Anything that might help me out?
Getting to Know about Chicago and Maybe Moving Here? Hi there, I've lived in a suburban area my whole life and am ready to leave this summer. I'd like to go to a city that doesn't require a car - my top choices are New York, Chicago, and Washington DC. So I've been looking at Chicago neighborhood maps and I have no idea which are the good ones or not? For example I have this map I found: https://coral.uchicago.edu:8443/download/attachments/8128004/Chicago%20Neighborhood%20Map.gif . My questions: What area has the most young, single population with bars, clubs, and lounges? Also hopefully these neighborhoods won't have too much crime. I think I'll probably make about 35k in 2009, so rent will have to match this type of income. Finally I'm still young, under 21. I'm working full time at the moment but I'd like to go college maybe, which ones would be good in the city area? I had an SAT score of 1900 or 2000, around that, and a GPA of 3.4 - 3.6 (I forgot the exact numbers). I hope I didn't ask too much. Thanks to anyone who can help! Thanks Rick! Nah I don't care about the downtown really. I just didn't know how Chicago was set up and assumed that was where the young singles were. My only frame of reference with cities is of Manhattan and Brooklyn/Queens. In my mind the people who live in Brooklyn/Queens can get decent priced places and then go to Manhattan for the main nightlife. Is Chicago City basically just a mini-Manhattan then?
Milwaukee to Chicago - most scenic route near Lake Michigan? I'm currently in Milwaukee and am planning to go to Chicago soon. I am interested in seeing Lake Michigan, and would like to find a route that follows it as closely as possible along the entire way. I did some MapQuesting and can see from the map that it's probably possible (although perhaps very complicated for someone not familiar with the area): http://www.mapquest.com/maps?1c=Milwaukee&1s=WI&1y=US&1l=43.038898&1g=-87.906403&1v=CITY&2c=Chicago&2s=IL&2y=US&2l=41.883823&2g=-87.632469&2v=CITY Is this practical? Should I just buy a "real" map and try to follow it? Unfortunately, I'm not so good with maps. Any info, tips, experiences, etc. would be greatly appreciated! P.S. My friend recommended visiting this place along the way: http://dnr.state.il.us/lands/landmgt/parks/r2/ilbeach.htm
Where do you think the next GTA will take place? My guess is a Detroit/ Chicago midwest setting in the mid 90's when all the factories moved out, explaining the crime rate. I'd like to see a Boston/Liberty City/ Philadelphia map with Liberty City as a penninsula off of a greater map. What do you think.
On a scale of 1 to 500, how stupid must you be if you're a 21 year old who thinks Chicago is in New York? OMG I know a girl who tried arguing with me yesterday that the city Chicago is located in the state of New York. I was like WTF you're the stupidest hoor I've ever met in my life. I showed her a map and the onslaught of jokes directed towards her stupidity followed shorty thereafter. It was pretty funny to relentlessly make fun of her until I saw her eyes begin to tear up, yet I feel a little sad at how our publicly funded school system has failed at educating our youth. BTW, I totally nailed her last night too. too late anonymous. she already has 3, all with different daddies. Go figure, right?
Are Chicago's blocks numbered? For the city of Chicago, USA, is there a system to identify city blocks by number? Where can I find a map of this? I know approx every 800 house numbers is a mile and streets are identified by there street number. I would like an concise system to identify blocks - the areas bounded by streets.
best map book of Chicago n,s,e,w NORTHWEST side? Years ago, my mom had a book that I can no lnoger find. It showed all the major streets, their numbers, etc. It's perfect for someone who wants to learn all the city blocks, major streets, etc. Where Can I find a good one?
Should the United States pull out of Chicago or is a surge needed? Nearly 125 Shot Dead In Chicago Over Summer Total Is About Double The Death Toll In Iraq CHICAGO (CBS) ― An estimated 123 people were shot and killed over the summer. That's nearly double the number of soldiers killed in Iraq over the same time period. In May, cbs2chicago.com began tracking city shootings and posting them on Google maps. Information compiled from our reporters, wire service reports and the Chicago Police Major Incidents log indicated that 123 people were shot and killed throughout the city between the start of Memorial Day weekend on May 26, and the end of Labor Day on Sept. 1. According to the Defense Department, 65 soldiers were killed in combat in Iraq. About the same number were killed in Afghanistan over that same period. In the same time period, an estimated 245 people were shot and wounded in the city. http://cbs2chicago.com/local/chicago.summer.shootings.2.810166.html

Can you help me with simple driving directions in Chicago? I need a quick and easy way to get from Devon & Western in the north-eastern section, to 87th and Ashland in the south-eastern section. I have job training and I drive there every day, and I will keep on doing so for two more weeks. I'm tired of driving down Western the WHOLE way. I'm a country boy, from the sticks in Minnesota, so please make it simple. I have a city map but it's so freakin’ huge; I swear that thing is close to life-size. I don't trust MapQuest or any other online driving directions website.
Things for teens to do in Chicago for the day? Getting around/Sights? Detailed Answers Please.? My brother, my friend, her brother, and I are trying to plan a day trip to Chicago (Two girls the same age, two boys the same age). (So far, I'm doing the idea gathering, and I'm going to ask them what they'd like to see to make a final decision). The plane ride is only a half hour, so we're planning on leaving for Chicago early in the morning, and getting back on the plane in the evening. (Hopefully after dark, we want to see the city at night!). We don't want to stay over night, because we don't want to spend TOO much, and the travel time is short! However, I don't exactly know what to do the whole time. I'd be perfectly content with just walking the city, but since it's most of our first times going, we want to see/experience a lot. Not only that, but I'm worried about getting around. There is an online tool to help find bus routes and times.. But obviously I'm not going to have access to it in the middle of the city. Is getting around Chicago without a cab difficult? Are the bus/train systems easy to figure out? Will they have maps and things in the airport to take? Also, for the fun part.. What are some of the MUST do/see things when visiting? I planned on us wanting to see the Sears (Well, Willis now!) Tower from the Sky deck.. Maybe go to Navy Pier. For dinner, we want to eat in the Rainforest Cafe (is this place really crowded? Should we make prior reservations?) I am personally interested in seeing the river in the middle of the city, and the Park with the art sculptures, but I don't HAVE to see it. I guess we could since this trip is all day. But other than that, I have no clue on what a must-see/do is in Chicago. Where/what should we go/do, being four teenagers? I'm not sure if the guys will have much interest in a regular museum..? Also.. We wanted to eat some authentic (haha!) Chicago food for lunch. Probably pizza, but we're open to other ideas too. Where can you get real Chicago pizza/food? Detailed answers/ New ideas/ Transportation tips/ Anything else is MUCH Appreciated. 10 points goes to the Best Answer, and I will choose a best answer! Thanks in advanced. Any idea/suggestion is helpful! Yeah, we don't want to stay at the pier all day. We'll certainly go there, but we want things to do IN the city.
Chicago, Indiana, United States? Hey! i am wondering if chicago extends its borders to Indiana, according to google maps http://maps.google.com/maps?q=10720+S+avenue+a+chicago&um=1&ie=UTF-8&hq=&hnear=0x8811d8641e785119:0x6dfcb47503148150,10720+S+Avenue+A,+Chicago,+IN+60617&gl=us&ei=gDMnTsaTMKaNsQLS9qU7&sa=X&oi=geocode_result&ct=title&resnum=1&ved=0CBUQ8gEwAA theres couple houses witch are in chicago indiana, is it true or is a mistake behalf of google maps, so would this be considered a diffrent town since its in a diffrent state, so is this part of chicago il or is this an entirley new town/city. and no this is not east chicago, indiana, Thanks!!
are the google maps cameras magic : ) ? if you go to Google maps and some famous city... you get street view... which is a car with a camera driving around taking pictures... but, it seems to be a 360 degree camera, turn the picture around till it looks like you should be looking down the lens... but you arnt ; ) because that would be impossible of course... and even if you tilt the picture to look straight down, there is nothing there.. just the road... like the camera is just floating there... nothing above it either o.O my example is of... "s state street, Chicago, IL"... it seems weird... in PLAIN ENGLISH could you explain why it isnt a magic floating camera : ) thx..
Best way to get into Chicago? Hey there, staying in Hammond, IN for the DLD weekend fun, hitting the Flossmor Station on Friday night, DLD sat, and want to get into the city for some Sheffields, Map Room, and/or Hop Leaf Saturday night. Thought maybe some good Stone/Surly stuff might be laying around or at the least have some pints of either. Any ideas on the best way to do this through park and rides/mass transit or is it just easiest to drive in and park somewhere? Open to any ideas. Thanks!
What are the areas around a city called in America? I was wondering what is the common name for areas around a major city in America? For example, if you take a look at Chicago, there are areas around the city called Oak Park, Montclare, Avondale, Harwood Heights etc. You can take a look on the map here: http://maps.google.com.au/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geocode=&q=chicago&sll=41.853196,-87.556915&sspn=0.274649,0.676346&gl=au&ie=UTF8&hq=&hnear=Chicago,+Cook,+Illinois,+United+States&ll=41.86547,-87.580948&spn=0.272041,0.676346&z=11 Are these referred to as suburbs, citys towns or something else in America? In Australia we have the following breakdown Country > State > City > Suburbs - so i was wondering if you could help me out with his this works in the USA? Thanks!!
When driving to Montana and Utah, does this include driving around the mountains? I may be traveling to Montana and to Utah this year. I hate flying so I'm thinking about driving but haven't driven around any mountains (and don't want to). Does driving to Montana and Utah including driving around mountains? A second question, is there a mapping site that shows the elevation (above sea level) of the destinations? More specifically, I'm thinking about going to Billings, MT and Salt Lake City, Utah from Chicago, IL. Thx
Help navigating Chicago!!? I'm taking an Amtrak train to Chicago, IL to visit my boyfriend. I haven't done this before, and I'm a little confused... I need to get from the Union station in Chicago to Carol Springs, IL (about a half hour away) I know there's a Metra train that does this, as this is what he has taken before, but I cannot for the life of me find the schedule. The websites show huge maps of what loks like a very confusing city, and I can't even find the Amtrak station on them to begin with. I'll be arriving in Chicago just before 6 p.m. (assuming the train is on time). Can anyone help me frind my way to Carol Stream??? I just need to know where to go and when to catch that train. Thank you!
How many murders in Chicago are by gang members? The paper here in Chicago just published a map of where the murders have occurred (220 so far). Predictably, most of them have ben in the south and west sides of the city as they always are. While this skews how dangerous Chicago is overall, I was also wondering the motive for these murders. Does anyone know where to find a listing of why people are murdered? I suspect most of these are because of gangs and many of the victims are gang members involved in crime themselves, but how many? Is there a reliable way to find out what is the real danger of either getting killed anonymously or even "for no reason"? Any racist rants will be reported.

Where can I find a list of dates for A Christmas Carol Train Tour? I am a HUGE fan of The Polar Express, and also an avid rail fan., So, when I found out the Disney was launching a forty city train tour to promote it's November 6th release "A Christmas Carol" I was VERY excited. I have managed to find a map and discovered that the train is coming to three cities close to me: Chicago, Il. Indianapolis Ind. and Detroit Mi. Where can I find the dates that the train will be in those cities?
Help Identifying a Building in Chicago? Dear all, I drive by this building pretty often, always thought it looked pretty/intriguing, and wanted to identify it. You can see it towards the south, across the river, whilst driving east (from 94) on North Avenue (into the city). It's the building with the turquoise roof in the center of this Google map link: http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=en&geocode=&time=&date=&ttype=&q=west+blackhawk+street+and+north+cherry+avenue,+chicago&sll=41.907451,-87.655234&sspn=0.014947,0.029182&ie=UTF8&ll=41.907819,-87.655427&spn=0.007474,0.014591&t=h&z=16&om=0 (Looks like it's the corner of W Blackhawk St and N Cherry Avenue.) Any ideas? curious, Chris
City, State AND Zip?? Why? When I address a letter, why do I need to put the City, State, AND Zip code when the ZIP code tells you the city, state and specific section? What I mean is, if you go to Google maps, or expedia, or mapquest...etc...and type in a ZIP code, it will instantly take you there. So why can't I just write the ZIP code on an envelope? That's really all they need at the Post office anyway... For example, If I write: 1234 Street St., 60614 You can easily find that 60614 is in Chicago (Lincoln Park). So why do I also need to write "Chicago, IL" on the letter? David V proved my point exactly in the first line of his post. The City, ST can be left off if the ZIP is included. I agree that the redundancy INCREASES the chances of the letter arriving at its destination successfully.
Rush Hour Drive - Chicago to Milwaukee? Leaving downtown Chicago at about 5 PM on a Friday. Driving to downtown Milwaukee. I know the Edens will be slammed. What is the typical driving commute time? I would like to make a dinner reservation in Milwaukee. Of course, G-Maps tells me it's about an hour-and-a-half drive, but I am guessing they don't consider the regular standstills on 90/94 leaving the city on a weekend. 2 hours? more? can I make up enough time once I clear the heavy stuff to make it in under 2? Experience would be nice. Did the trip. Getting out of Downtown Chicago onto the Kennedy was the worst...then not so bad. Total driving was 2 hours 10 minutes. I went 75 mph as often as possible.
Taxi Services in Chicago, IL? Okay, excuse my ignorance because being from the Detroit area, aka "The Motor City", my experience with taxi services is very limited. So my question is, how do I use a taxi service in Chicago if my 18-month-old is still in a car seat? Also, are there taxi services that can accommodate my family of five? Finally, about how much would the cab fare be for a 5 mile/14 minute drive (according to yahoo maps)? THANK YOU! We'll have our car at the hotel, which is about 5 miles from downtown. I just worry about the availability/cost of parking downtown.
Is Green Bay a major city? I was looking at a map of the U.S. on the Oklahoma Commerce website, showing how Oklahoma City is central to the rest of America, and how far it is from OKC to all the other major cities in the U.S. However, whilst it included many genuine major cities like New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, Atlanta etc., it also included Green Bay, yet it did not even include Milwaukee. Since when has Green Bay been a) a major city, and b) the largest city in Wisconsin? By the way, I can understand the inclusion of such a city on a map of Wisconsin, or on a map of the Midwest. However, I do not think that it should be included on a small-scale map of the whole United States, especially when there are only 20 cities in total included on the map. The city may have the Packers, but does having a pro sports team automatically make you a major city? I know that Green Bay has a population of about 120,000 within the city limits, and about 300,000 within the metro area, but that does not make it no New York does it? P.S. Is there some other reason why Green Bay was included on this map?

What is the best apartment search site? I live in Chicago. I remember when I was searching for an apartment last year I found a site that had a map (google maps style) with the location of each listed apartment. It was awesome, but I have no idea what it was called and I can't find it anywhere. It was national, and worked for other cities, too. If you know of anything else, Chicago-specific, I'm open to that, too. Thanks!

Why do people in big cities tend to vote Democrat and people in rural areas vote Republican? When you look at the electoral map and it's divided up with the Republicans in Red and the Democrats in Blue. Why are all of the Blue states the ones with big cities like New York, L.A. and Chicago were you have a vast diversity of people (religious, ethnic, financial, cultural). I would think it would be reversed since the Republicans views more closely match that of the wealthy and elite that live and work in the big cities.
How to prep for the Chicago Marathon? Hey guys, I'm hoping someone with either 1. experience running marathons or 2. medical expertise can help me out here. I can't stress enough, unless you've ran a marathon or are a fitness expert/doctor, please hold on the input here! :) I'm fairly in shape. I used to run 2-5 miles a day (sometimes 2.7 in the morning and 2.7 at night) 3-4 times a week, on sidewalks/streets - similar terrain, I'm sure, to that of the Chicago Marathon (I'm from Aurora, 45 minutes west of the city, and know the downtown area fairly well). The problem is this - I was hit by a car in November, and it rendered my leg pretty much useless up until now. I still can't walk without a limp, and I surely can't run, but I'm estimating another 2-3 weeks will complete my recovery. After that, I'd like to begin training to run the marathon which takes place in November, and I'd like some information on how to get back into training; what kind of starting distance I should use, etc., (Even if I can run 2-5 miles right off the bat again, should I start back at the beginning and work back up past my previous comfort point?). How much running is too much when accommodating the long run? I don't want to stress my body out to the point that 26 miles isn't possible, but I want the fastest results possible. One last thing, where would I find the best training guide online? I've seen a few different tables mapping a suggested training regimen, but I don't have enough experience to decide which is best - possibly something that includes dietary suggestions? Thank you in advance for your help!
Picking hotel in Chicago, Loop area or Magnificent Mile area? I'm about to bid on a hotel on Priceline. Which area would be better a location if I want to be a real tourist & do all the touristy things? Looking at the map, there's more metro stops around the Loop than the Mag Mile. The metro will be my main souce of getting around the city. But I've read that the Loop area is dead at night since it's a financial district and I've also read that Mag Mile is a good area to stay. So I'm torn between the two areas. Anyone who's been to Chicago or live in Chicago....which area is a better spot to stay for purpose of being a tourist? Thanks for the map! Best map i've come across so far.
How do i get from Evanston to Uptown Chicago via public transit? I'm coming to the Chicago area from out of state and I am a virgin to public transit so I'm looking for really detailed directions. I've been told to take the purple line from the davis station and switch to the red line at howard and take that to lawrence (I'm headed to the Aragon). Does that sound right? And if so, is there a certain side of the train I need to exit? Am I walking up or downstairs to another platform? Or is it pretty self explanitory? I'm not too dumb to read a map but I'm not going to see one until the day I'm there. I guess I just need to know what to expect. I'm kind of a control freak. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Side note: I've lived in a big city before (LA) and stayed and worked in so-called "sketchy" neighborhoods so even though I'm coming from Evanston, I am comfortable with the urban setting of Chicago.
Where is a good free place to leave your car in Chicago? That might just be the unanswerable question. Whenever I go to big cities I can almost always find a decent place to leave my car where I feel safe enough, and even sleep in it, but Chicago seems to defeat me, I have yet to find one even semi-close to Michigan Ave. Anything you guys know of within a few miles? Addresses are best so I can google map and then view from there. Also, I'm even just looking for the cheapest garages around for leaving your car 10+ hours Thanks!

Are Liberals and Democrats (if there is a difference) inherently Criminal? If you look at a map of the US that is divided into Red and Blue based upon the outcome of recent elections, you will see that the cities with the highest crime rate are solid Blue. For example, Detroit, Washington DC, Baltimore, New Orleans, LA, NYC, and Chicago. It seems that Blue and Crime are synonymous. Doesn't this explain why Liberals are always trying to take hard working American's money through social spending that benefits the Blue population?

Driving in from Indiana (I-80), what's a good Park and Ride to use? I'm doing a day trip to Chicago and not knowing the city plus holiday traffic, I'd much prefer to park somewhere and get around downtown on the L. I've looked at the transit authority map and what stations have Park and Ride lots, but I'm not sure how hard to they are to reach. Any suggestions? Should I just head for Midway airport and hope a nearby station Park and Ride has space? I'd be getting back to my car sometime between 9pm and midnight. Someone suggested north of town, but looking at a map that looks like a lot of extra driving and navigating to reach.

Have you seen Cocaine Cowboys? Really good documentary. "Cocaine Cowboys" is the true story of how Miami became the drug, murder and cash capital of the United States, told by the people who made it all happen.

Garmin 205w vs. Garmin 255w? Which one would you suggest that I buy? I would be using it for mainly highway and smaller towns but I would also go to larger cities like Iowa City and Chicago. It sounds like the onyl difference between the two is that the 255w has maps of Mexico and Canada. Also when the 255w talks to you, it tells you the actual street name, not "Turn left 100 yards." The 205w is $175 at Walmart and the 255w is $240. Please tell me if I should spend the extra money for more maps and street names? Thanks a bunch!

what do you think of my story so far? i didn't think of a title or anything for it yet, infact i dont even know if i'll finish it. its not the best but i'm only 15 so i still have alot of time to improve on my writing skills. My heart was pounding inside of my chest. I could feel butterflies flapping furiously in my stomach as the bus turned slowly into the school bus loop. My nightmare was beginning. The first day of a new school. I sighed as I thought of all the possible ways I could embarrass myself today. I stared out the window at the I moved here to this large, cold city of Chicago, Illinois just a few mere days ago. But it seems like a lot longer than that. My whole life I’d lived in the heat and the sun of White Springs, Florida with my Father, Robert Brooks. Well… actually not my whole life, but for the past ten years. I was only five at the time when my mom couldn’t afford the rent of our apartment, and had to get another part time job at a local diner. She was gone all day, and wasn’t home enough to take care of me. But here I was again, ten long years of living with my dad later. I sighed as the faded yellow bus stopped right in front of the entrance to Lakeside High School, its tires squeaking and sliding in the snow as it slowed. Kids piled out, itchy to get off the too warm and crowded vehicle. I held my breath as I stepped carefully onto the old concrete walk that led to the doors, expecting it to be icy, but found that large pieces of salt had been thickly scattered all the way up to the doors. As soon as I walked in the large cafeteria I felt my self conscious level shoot up, and I tried to remember what I was wearing under the soft brown coat I had borrowed from my mother this morning. I never really paid much attention to… or really cared about fashion, or what was in or not, but a small sigh of relief escaped me when I remembered the blue fleece shirt I had thrown on today. I walked up the big stairway carefully; the last thing I wanted was to fall flat on my face going up the stairs. I decided I would stop by my new locker before going to my first hour. I yanked out a folded piece of paper that was my schedule from my jeans and searched for the number. 1182 I repeated to myself over and over again in my head. The halls were starting to fill up as the minutes went by, making it harder for me to see. My height was not one of my best qualities. I then remembered the map I had in my other pocket that showed all the floors of the school. I unfolded it and helplessly looked for where I was, not feeling like asking anyone for directions. It was on the third floor, on the other side of the school apparently. Damnit. I was going the wrong way. Still looking at the map, I swung myself around and shoved myself through the growing herd of kids. I saw another tower of stairs just past the main office, but before I could start walking towards them, someone bashed into me, knocking my body sideways and sending my books flying. I hit the white tiled floor with a thud. “Oh my God, are you okay?!” A worried voice asked before I could react. “I’m so sorry, I didn’t see you…” I looked up to see a small girl with long strawberry blonde hair and clear blue eyes staring at me, her expression worried. She outstretched her hand and I took it, smiling friendly at her. “It’s ok. Don’t worry about it.” I brushed myself off once I got to my feet and she helped me gather my things, looking curiously at me. “Hey… are you new here? I can’t remember seeing you before.” “Yep, First day. My names Kaelyn Bryers.” Her smile widened and she held out her hand. “Amy Benhorn, Nice to meet you.” Just as I shook it, the bell sounded in one long ring. “Crap!” I said. “We’re late. I don’t even know where I’m going, either.” I looked around me and realized the hall was practically empty now. Amy’s laughter startled me. “Relax. I’m tardy all the time; they don’t do anything about it. You’re a junior right? What’s your first class?” Algebra I began to say, but she already had my schedule in her hands. “Mrs. Boughtman” she mumbled. “I know where that is, I have her second hour. Come on.” She walked in front of me and gestured for me to follow her. When we reached the top of the winding stairs, she led me down a wide hallway with pieces of trash and paper carelessly thrown on the carpeted floor. At the second to last door she stopped. “Here you go. Good luck.” Her warm smile illuminated her heart-shaped face. “Hey you can sit at my table today at lunch if you like. You have it after fourth period, right? “Yeah, thanks, I’d love to. That’s one thing I don’t have to worry about today.” She laughed, then waved goodbye. My hours basically went the same way. I had to go through the whole ‘new student’ thing, getting introduced and stared at as the bell rang, my face automatically turning pink. Lunch came and went, along with fifth hour and sixth hour and soon it was the end of the day. I went to the front office to find my bus number, for it was so dark this
Am i crazy? Do you do this? Do i need help? ? Okay, i hate my life now. I hate school, i hate my parents and i hate my brother i hate my city which is Chicago. I met these kids online who live in California. It is so cool, i looked at there school and it looks really cool. On the school's website there is everything to know about the school. I copyed down, directions on google maps, i copyed teachers names and their pictures and classes and the agenda and everything. I do their homework. I was able to order the books that they use at my grade. I am a sophmore. I fantisize in my head of me going to school and handing in the homework. i also fantisize hanging out with the kids from the internet when i ask where they went to day i copy it down and find a pattern. I love them and their world. I sometimes don't do my homework for my real school and when my parents come in my room to check on things they think i'm doing the homework when really i am doing the other homework. Is something wrong with me? Am i weird. No one likes me at school. People beat me up. my parents aren't nice to me. I am kinda suicidal. I have even been trying to find a way to get to california and show up at their houses as a surprise. I found where they live by using their last names in the yellowpages online. i have fun fantisizing about them. Help? or am i alright? I know they are real. They do a online show. They have talked about me on camera.
Mental illness, divorce, custody, living conditions. I need advice!? Do you think a dad has a chance to change primary custody if the mom quit seeing her psychiatrist (bipolar disorder) and moved to an area where 7 school kids have been killed this year by gangs within a few miles from their home? Almost 100 sex offenders (some child sex offenders) live near their home (Chicago Police Dept. map). I live in the country and have a nice yard. There hasn't been any murders in the whole county since I moved here 10 years ago. One sex offender lives within 2 miles of my home. Should I be fighting for custody for these reasons? I have two little daughters. It's hard to communicate with my ex since she quit taking medication. Most dads don't have a chance in court. I love my daughters and I want their mother to be part of their life. The mother moved to the city because she wanted to live there. I wanted to stay together and work on the issues. She doesn't have a job and chose to go on welfare. Taking medication could help her so much

Coolest web search thing ever!? Have you seen it? Ok, maybe it's not that life-changing, and maybe this isn't really a question, but have you seen it? Usually I'm a Google searcher. But today, my friend suggest I tried the new Live Search, just to see if it's good enough. I was bored, and said ok, I would try Live Search for a day. I didn't really expect anything cool. But Live Search is pretty neat. ONE major thing I saw that I really like is when you search for traffic in your city. Like "Los Angeles traffic" or "Chicago commute" you get a real map, right in the search results, and it works interactively. It really does. For an example, look at this: http://search.live.com/results.aspx?q=houston+commute&go=Search&form=QBRE Isn't that cool? I thought it was. Another neat thing is video search. Search for a video, and if you hover over a thumbnail image, you can see a 15-30 second preview, right on the page. Without going to another link. It's really cool. Give it a try. So what do you think?

If all of these Obama gaffes were made by McCain would he be accused of dementia? Last May, he claimed that tornadoes in Kansas killed a whopping 10,000 people: “In case you missed it, this week, there was a tragedy in Kansas. Ten thousand people died — an entire town destroyed.” The actual death toll: 12. Earlier this month in Oregon, he redrew the map of the United States: “Over the last 15 months, we’ve traveled to every corner of the United States. I’ve now been in 57 states? I think one left to go.” Last week, in front of a roaring Sioux Falls, S.D., audience, Obama exulted: “Thank you, Sioux City. ... I said it wrong. I’ve been in Iowa for too long. I’m sorry.” Explaining last week why he was trailing Hillary Clinton in Kentucky, Obama again botched basic geography: “Sen. Clinton, I think, is much better known, coming from a nearby state of Arkansas. So it’s not surprising that she would have an advantage in some of those states in the middle.” On what map is Arkansas closer to Kentucky than Illinois? Obama has as much trouble with numbers as he has with maps. Last March, on the anniversary of the Bloody Sunday march in Selma, Ala., he claimed his parents united as a direct result of the civil rights movement: “There was something stirring across the country because of what happened in Selma, Ala., because some folks are willing to march across a bridge. So they got together and Barack Obama Jr. was born.” Obama was born in 1961. The Selma march took place in 1965. His spokesman, Bill Burton, later explained that Obama was “speaking metaphorically about the civil-rights movement as a whole.” Earlier this month in Cape Girardeau, Mo., Obama showed off his knowledge of the war in Afghanistan by homing in on a lack of translators: “We only have a certain number of them, and if they are all in Iraq, then it’s harder for us to use them in Afghanistan.” The real reason it’s “harder for us to use them” in Afghanistan: Iraqis speak Arabic or Kurdish. The Afghanis speak Pashto, Farsi, or other non-Arabic languages. Over the weekend in Oregon, Obama pleaded ignorance of the decades-old, multibillion-dollar massive Hanford nuclear-waste cleanup: “Here’s something that you will rarely hear from a politician, and that is that I’m not familiar with the Hanford, uuuuhh, site, so I don’t know exactly what’s going on there. (Applause.) Now, having said that, I promise you I’ll learn about it by the time I leave here on the ride back to the airport.” I assume on that ride, a staffer reminded him that he’s voted on at least one defense-authorization bill that addressed the “costs, schedules, and technical issues” dealing with the nation’s most contaminated nuclear-waste site. Last March, the Chicago Tribune reported this little-noticed nugget about a fake autobiographical detail in Obama’s Dreams from My Father: “Then, there’s the copy of Life magazine that Obama presents as his racial awakening at age 9. In it, he wrote, was an article and two accompanying photographs of an African-American man physically and mentally scarred by his efforts to lighten his skin. In fact, the Life article and the photographs don’t exist, say the magazine’s own historians.” And in perhaps the most seriously troubling set of gaffes of them all, Obama told a Portland crowd over the weekend that Iran doesn’t “pose a serious threat to us” — cluelessly arguing that “tiny countries” with small defense budgets can’t do us harm — and then promptly flip-flopped the next day, claiming, “I’ve made it clear for years that the threat from Iran is grave.” Barack Obama — promoted by the Left and the media as an all-knowing, articulate, transcendent Messiah — is a walking, talking gaffe machine. How many more passes does he get? How many more can we afford? Moose- Obama's stupidity hurts America.

Confessions of a Travel Agent ??? I had a New Hampshire Congresswoman ask for an aisle seat on the airplane so that her hair wouldn't get messed up by being near the window. I got a call from a Candidate's Staffer, who wanted to go to Capetown. I started to explain the length of the flight and the passport information. He interrupted me with, "I'm not trying to make you look stupid, but Capetown is in Massachusetts." Without trying to make him look like the stupid one, I calmly explained, "Cape Cod is in Massachusetts, Capetown is in Africa." His response ...(click). ?? A Senior Vermont Congressman called, furious about a Florida package we did. I asked what was wrong with the vacation in Orlando. He said he was expecting an ocean-view room. I tried to explain that is not possible, since Orlando is in the middle of the state. He replied, "Don't lie to me. I looked on the map, and Florida is a very thin state!!!" I got a call from a Lawmakers Wife who asked, "Is it possible to see England from Canada?" I said, "No." She said, "But they look so close on the map." An Aide for a Bush cabinet member once called and asked if they could rent a car in Dallas. When I pulled up the reservation, I noticed they only had a 1-hour lay-over in Dallas. When I asked him why he wanted to rent a car, he said, "I heard Dallas was a big airport, and we will need a car to drive between the gates to save time." An Illinois Congresswoman called last week. She needed to know how it was possible that her flight from Detroit left at 8:20am and got into Chicago at 8:33am. I tried to explain that Michigan was an hour ahead of Illinois, but she could not understand the concept of time zones. Finally, I told her the plane went very fast, and she bought that! A New York lawmaker called and asked, "Do airlines put your physical description on your bag so they know who's luggage belongs to who? " I said, "No, why do you ask?" She replied, "Well, when I checked in with the airline, they put a tag on my luggage that said (FAT), and I'm overweight, I think that is very rude!" After putting her on hold for a minute while I "looked into it" (I was actually laughing) I came back and explained the city code for Fresno, CA is (FAT), and that the airline was just putting a destination tag on her luggage. A Senator called and said, "I need to fly to Pepsi-Cola, FL. Do I have to get on one of those little computer planes?" I asked if he meant fly to Pensacola, FL on a commuter plane. He said, "Yeah, whatever!!" A Senior Senator called and had a question about the documents he needed in order to fly to China. After a lengthy discussion about passports, I reminded him he needed a visa. "Oh no I don't, I've been to China many times and never had to have one of those." I double checked and sure enough, his stay required a visa. When I told him this he said, "Look, I've been to China four times and every time they have accepted my American Express!" A New Mexico Congressman called to make reservations, "I want to go from Chicago to Rhino, New York" The agent was at a loss for words. Finally, the agent: "Are you sure that's the name of the town?" "Yes, what flights do you have?" replied the man. After some searching, the agent came back with, "I'm sorry, sir, I've looked up every airport code in the country and can't find a Rhino anywhere." The man retorted, "Oh don't be silly! Everyone knows where it is. Check your map!" The agent scoured a map of the state of New York and finally offered, "You don't mean Buffalo, do you?" "That's it! I knew it was a big animal"???? Now you know why the government is in the shape that it's in!
