Is there anything like google earth with newer images? I read people use google earth to look for crashed air planes, but how would that work if the images are so old? Yes, i do live out in the country.
Are there any web sites that allow you to see live satellite images of any place on earth? I am looking for a web site that allows you to pin point any where on earth. I have downloaded World Wind 1.3.3.1 from NASA, but it isn't exactly what I'm looking for. To be more exact, I'm looking for something like Tommy Lee Jones used in Men In Black (when he looked up his lady friend), but it doesn't have to be that detailed. Does anything like that exist?
How old are the satellite images of Google Earth? Does anyone use Google Earth? I just downloaded and am wondering how old the pictures are. I saw my old high school and definitely know the pictures of my school are 3.5 years at their oldest (from the renovation of and addition of huge buildings), but I looked at pictures of my house and I can definitely tell its older than 3.5 years. So how old are the newest pictures and is it possible to see live streaming satellite photos?

How often are the images on google earth updated? I'm trying to find out whether construction has been started on a place in my home town where I no longer live, and I'm wondering if the satellite images on Google Earth are a continuous stream of new images, or, if not (as I suspect they aren't), how often is the image of each place updated?
Where can I view live satellite images from space such as the following souce? I am NOT talking about Google Earth or Wild Wind from NASA; those are only pictures pasted together. I would like to see live images. http://www.wired.com/news/wireservice/0,70894-0.html?tw=rss.index
Google Earth: Live streaming images available? I was curious to know if Google Earth or any other program allows you to view live satellite images of your home or other places on Earth?
Is there any programs that offer live satellite feeds? is there any programs that offer live satellite feeds of the earth or delayed images of an hour or so. it doesn't matter if you have to pay for it. can someone tell me where i can find some program or site like this.
Where can I look at live, real-time satellite pictures of the Earth? I want something like Google Earth but instead of a single (mostly outdated) picture I want a live real-time image or recording on any place on the planet. Is there a website that allows me to do that?
Why are there no live satellite views of earth from space available to the public online? Don't say that it is for national security purposes because you can look at still satellite views online that are no more than a few months or weeks old. Meteorologists seem to have access to live satellite viewing. Why not the general public. If the image is loaded to a server that delays the images by a pre-programmed amount of time then any "sensitive" images can be blurred or deleted by whatever "watchdog" group is chosen to watch us watching. Maybe a department in the NSA. I think the people of earth should have the opportunity to view live (or nearly live) video/images of our planet. Then we could watch huge herds of wildebeasts roam across grassland... gigantic flocks of birds take flight... or the flow of clouds across the pacific. Shouldn't everyone be able to have such views since it is possible and can be available. But all of that seems to be held in the hands of a small few.
A question about viewing satellite video? I know there are sites like microsoft's terraserver, and programs like google earth where you can view satellite images of our cities. But I recently had a friend who was telling me that there's this new website/program where you can view cities from a satellite and its LIVE images. He basically said that you can see the cars moving and everything. Anyone have any idea of what the name or this website or program is, and where I can find it?
live images of earth? which web site can I get that shows live satellite images of England at the moment I am watching
Download satellite images? I have a piece of software that I've written for mapping purposes. It would e nice to show satellite images in the background so I can trace features. Do Google Earth or Windows Live Local or any other site offer custom downloads of image tiles that I can use in my own software? It doesn't matter if the tiles come with logos/copyright texts as long as they are readable. Thanks.
Current, live satellite imagery of the North and South poles? Why is it so difficult to come across any live satellite views of our poles? The technology certainly exists, I mean, I can zoom in on my house and see my car, so why can't I see what is currently going on at these poles? Is NASA trying to hide something? Every satellite image I've seen of the poles has been either blurry, non-available, or manipulated (photoshoped in a sense) very poorly up to a point where it makes me almost laugh in frustration. So I ask you, my peers, where can I view high-detailed satellite imagery of the poles? And as a side note, before I receive answers saying something to the effect of "oh satellites only orbit the equator" or "such satellites are rare" or "a satellite orbiting the poles would not be very interesting" STOP! These answers are not true, satellites pass within these realms ALL THE TIME. And why would these images be useful? Simply because I think there is a need to know and I believe it to be suspicious that this information isn't readily available to us, and yet, we can spend unlimited hours meandering on google earth view looking at our neighbors pool. http://celebrating200years.noaa.gov/transformations/gps/Figure_1.html Hey linlyons, it would seem like you think it would seem as though the only answer that would satisfy me is a secret government plot? No? Maybe you should look past my question and see what I'm trying to maybe imply and try to find me an answer impartially without viewing my question as a conspiracy theory. Don't you see that you're nullifying it without even seeking an answer? Now, either find me the answer to my question, or go back to thinking that you know everything. Now, I dare you. Google: the north pole from space. I double dare you! http://www.stevenswater.com/telemetry_com/images/geo_info_clip1.jpg Hey Nyx, you say that there are no geosynchronous satellites in polar orbit as if that's a fact. Did you research it? Obviously not, as you would have come across the Terra satellite which orbits the Earth in a circle running north-to-south at an altitude of 702 km. This type of orbit is called a “Polar Orbit” since the satellite passes closely to both the North and South Poles. Nice try though. And none of your links provided a question to my answer, so my question remains unanswered. Thanks for playing Nyx.
Cant satellite technology be used to penetrate the earth & oceans to locate ancient archaeological sites? Many lost cities, tombs civilisations etc lie buried underneath the earth. The oceans too contain in its depths many important shipwrecks and maybe lost cities. Today satellites that orbit the earth gives us graphic pictures of the surface of the earth(like Google or Live Earth). In such a vein isnt it possible to go deeper and get images of the belly of the earth or oceans to locate important historical areas or sites so that man can investigate those findings.
Why does one recent satellite image look different to other? If this is a real time live satellite image of Earth: http://www.n2yo.com/ You have to click on the satellite button on the map to see it. Why isn't the UK all white as in this image the other day: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/in_depth/8447023.stm I thought that it hasn't been warmer since that second image? Is the first one a fake? Is the first one google maps? I thought it said it's a real time live satellite image. How can you get a real time live satellite image of the UK?
Google Earth? Or Similar? How do you get access to a program similar to Google Earth / Satellite images but, live so that its like a video camera from above? Do you have to pay? Does anyone know what I'm talking about? Cool, THANKS!
Is there a satellite imaging gps system yet? This is kind of a hypothetical question because I have an idea of what this could cost, but are there and hand held gps systems that use satellite images instead of just a map of roads? Even less likely but more cool, are there any that are streamed close to live, or at least updated more frequently than google earth?

Does anyone know of a website where I can view live satellite surveillance of my house? Every website I can find (Google Earth, ect) only shows still images that are not LIVE. I would like to find one where I can see if there is any activity in my neighborhood when I am not there.
how can i see live satellite viev`s of the earth? i want to see mongolia ulaanbatar`s real time image with very close zoom
How high above the Earth would God need to be for people to appear the size of Grasshoppers? He sits enthroned above the circle of the earth, and its people are like grasshoppers. He stretches out the heavens like a canopy, and spreads them out like a tent to live in. Isaiah 40:22 Eg. Satellite images don't show people so I would guess God would need to be sitting below satellite height
Who just wants to watch the world burn? I just get all warm and fuzzy inside thinking of fire in the streets, chaos ruling the world, and Satellite images of earth showing 10-20% of the it charred. I often dream of living long enough to see it happen, and can't help but smile at the thought of my corrupted paradise. Does anyone out there contain the same vision as me? I would sell my soul to cast that first stone.
Where can I find a software like EarthDesk for Mac, and for free? I'm looking for a software that shows live satellite images of the Earth, as a wallpaper, pretty much what EarthDesk does, but it costs, and the free version has watermarks all over it !
Is there any software or website from where I can see live (real time) images of earth.? I just want to see any part of the world live but through Satellite.
Is there a ( live ) google earth? Is there a live satellite image that can be viewed on a pc? Or even more upto date images, where i live the images are about 2 years old.
Google Earth ? If I update to the newest version of Google Earth can I get live satellite images for free? I've heard of it, but do u have to pay for it?? Thanks
How does Google Earth find pictures of all the different spots of the world? Say, I wanted to see a satellite image of Los Angeles, CA, how old is the image? or is it live?

Can I pay for a service to watch a certain address? Like Google Earth? Will it give me a live feed? I have a friend who seems to be stalking her and always know who is at her house and when and we are trying to figure out how.....Google Earth gives images that are about 4 years old for our area. I am told if you pay extra you get better images. Is it possible he is doing this and actually able to watch her house thru the satellite on his computer? He also seems to always know where she is - could he have put a GPS on her car? Happens too often to be coincidence..... So does this extra $400 get you the live feed or just more accurate imagery? I am not going to trial it since I don't want it (even if I had the $400 :) but we were just trying to see if it was a possibility or if he was bs-ing her. He works fulltime so it's not as if he could be watching her all the damn time but I was wondering if he could have mounted a camera near her house? But he lives and works at least 20 minutes away so where would the images go? I am lost as to all this fancy stuff - just wanted to help her out....thanks
Live Satellite Question? Sup.. I was wandering if there is any software that allows you to see the world live, well maybe with updated images hourly etc...... Because I heard that google earth updates YEARLY which sucks.
Would you surrender all your knowledge to become ignorant and innocent again? Before I studied the Earth's satellite images, I wondered if there could be a hidden island filled with pirates and dinosaurs. Before I studied biology and psychology, I believed my dog had human thoughts and emotions. Before I studied logic and philosophy, I believed in all manner of religious and supernatural phenomena. Before I studied human interaction, I believed in fairytale romances. The list goes on. It just makes me wonder about everything I've learned, all the knowledge I've sought. I was happier and hopeful when my world was filled with mystery and magic. All I've gotten for my trouble is a bit of smugness and a hollow sense of being right. My question to you (at least those of you who drive yourselves toward knowledge) is this: Is it better to live as an awestruck fool, or as someone wise and disenchanted?
Will Google Earth ever add earlier times or clearer satellite pics of the past? I love the time slider on Google Earth and I've used it to check how neighborhoods I've lived in looked in the 90s (alot of things instantly came back to me) and just wondered if anyone knows if it's as clear as it's gonna get now or if they might improve it in future versions? The bummer is that the totally clear images start in 2002, and coincidentally that's about when the renovation and modernizing craze was taking off. So I can't quite see a really good picture of how it looked in the old days, it didn't quite last long enough... unless they get a better version in the future. Here's about how everything looks: 2005 to now - crystal clear color, almost like being there 2002 to 04 - pretty clear 2000 - half color, a little blurry but good enough 1998 - black and white, semi decent quality 1993 - black and white, sh*tty quality lol I'd love it if they got some earlier images too, I'd love to see the 80s too. or even earlier for historical purposes. It's so fun to see how neighborhoods developed over time and compare it to how it is today (since you can slide it instantly - in real time you tend to forget since it just changes gradually).
Would you agree to live in a world monitored by 24 hour video satellite surveillance? take google earth as an example. it provides images of places all over the globe. what if world government organisations proposed to take it one more level and constantly monitor the world 24/7 by video surveillance? i guess everyone would benefit with less crime but then again..you may interpret crime as something that makes the world go round and 24/7 video surveillance might change our entire structure on various scales. other not so beneficial factors also need to be considered..invasion of privacy being the basis. dont respond with answers like "it will never happen because it costs way too much money to fund" .. this is hypothetical
Is there a website where one could view any house in the US? Where I live (Allegheny County, PA) there is a website of all real estate in the county. You can view ownership, assessed value, building, and tax information for any house, building, piece of land in the county. I remember hearing not too long ago that there was now a similar website that did this for the entire country. Doeas anyone know where I might find such a thing? I'm not talking about google earth - Im looking for an actual picture not a satellite image
If God said a city will be destroyed, never again to be rebuilt, should we be able to find it on Google Earth? According to Ezekiel, God told him that Tyre would be utterly destroyed and would never be rebuilt. Ezekiel lived around 500 BC. Most Christians attempt to get around this false prophecy in one of two ways: by saying the prophecy simply hasn't been fulfilled yet (Tyre hasn't been destroyed yet) or the prophecy applied to the people of Tyre, not the city. Here is a satellite image of Tyre, which shows buildings: http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geocode=&q=tyre&sll=33.268905,35.200367&sspn=0.015501,0.027595&ie=UTF8&ll=33.276225,35.203285&spn=0.030999,0.055189&t=h&z=14 Here are the verses in question: Ezekiel 23:3-8 and 14 Therefore this is what the Sovereign Lord says: I am against you, O Tyre, and I will bring many nations against you, like the sea casting up its waves. They will destroy the walls of Tyre and pull down her towers; I will scrape away her rubble and make her a bare rock. Out in the sea she will become a place to spread fishnets, for I have spoken, declares the Sovereign Lord. She will become plunder for the nations, and her settlements on the mainland will be ravaged by the sword. "For this is what the Sovereign Lord says: From the north I am going to bring against Tyre Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, king of kings, with horses and chariots, with horsemen and a great army. He will ravage your settlements on the mainland with the sword; he will set up siege works against you, build a ramp up to your walls and raise his shields against you. I will make you a bare rock, and you will become a place to spread fishnets. You will never be rebuilt, for I the Lord have spoken, declares the Sovereign Lord. Don't those verses pretty much blow away the arguments made by every single Christian that I've asked this question? Supposedly God will call on King Neb to smash Tyre, which means it can't happen in our future because King Neb died around 562 BC. It can't mean "just the people of Tyre" because the prophecy speaks of destroying the walls and towers. I can't figure out why Christians refuse to acknowledge that this is false prophecy. Do you suppose it could be (gasp) that it would make Ezekiel a false prophet, which means that "God" allowed the Bible to include lies, which means that us lowly humans would have no idea which parts of the Bible are true and which are lies. Christians and Jews alike: please explain Tyre's existence.
B-2 Spirit Bomber over New Jersey? I live in Park Ridge, NJ, and for the past year I have discovered a strange annomaly. There appears to be the shadowed outline of a B-2 Bomber over the Northeast corner of New Jersey on google earth. (just search park ridge, nj). I am aware that satellite imaging systems take multiple pictures and thus this may account for the ridgid shape of the shadow, but if you compare it to a picture of a B-2 it fits perfectly (not to mention that this is basically the only shadow over the entire Eastern border). If anyone has the time - please look. I realize it may just be an interesting coincidence, but I think it is very possible that a picture of the B-2 was captured by satellite, and uploaded over an old map of the area. Thanks
How can someone watch their house from space? Can anyone put GPS and track someone else? My friend says an old friend of hers often makes comments about how he is watching her........from a satellite on his computer and always seems to know where she is. I thought it might be just from him driving by her house and following her but she thinks because he is a bit of a computer geek that he may be watching her house from a satellit....is that possible? We downloaded Google Earth but the images were at least 4 years old....can just anyone attach a GPS to her car and track her? Or watch a live feed of her home? We are mainly trying to find out if there is some program he is using that give him a live feed to her house? He always knows when people are coming and going and what cars they are driving but clearly can't be watching physically every minute of the day so how is he doing it?
Images of the moon??? Please Help!!!? My job is to draw the moon every night for a month. I could not see the moon last night and I do not see it tonight. Does anybody know a website or have a link where I can find pictures of the moon. It doesn't have to be any fancy satellite pictures. Just the way it looked from Earth. I live in Arizona so actually the way it looked from Arizona. Thanks in advance!
When will Google Earth update? I live in Toronto, the largest city in Canada, and every time i go to look at my house its a really old image. I see my neighbors 2 old cars which they got rid of 4 years ago, i still have the old roof on my house, and my other neighbor still has a tree that he cut down a long time ago. If there are satellites passing over all of the time, how hard can it be to update.
What could be the cause behind Tsunami? What could be the cause behind Tsunami? (A laconic elucidation from Bible) Millions of people lost courage on December 26th, 2004. The entire mankind was horrified on the deep effect of Tsunami, which traumatized the whole world. It has become a burning issue discussed by the nations of the world. The death toll reached millions due to the effect. The same Tsunami hit the mankind 40 years ago and wiped out 35 thousand people. Though man is on his scientific and hi-tech journey, all his evaluations were unable to save the affected. Nations, government personnel and scientists are to be pitied for not guesstimating the sudden disaster. Though they have their scientific elucidation there is still more to be evaluated for the question, why they are engulfing the mankind? As a Bible literate I would like to give an apt answer for the above question, which is to be meticulously scrutinized because, though these intellectuals have eyes, ears and brains they are unable to delve into the strong reasons behind these calamities. Acts 13: 40-41 Take care that what the prophets have said does not happen to you: "'Look, you scoffers, wonder and perish, for I am going to do something in your days that you would never believe, even if someone told you.'" If man stops looking at Bible with a religious glance and endeavors to understand the concepts in it he may be on the better way. Because of this serious situation among the mankind, to prove the authenticity of Bible I roar and throw my challenge at every intellect of the world to condemn my concepts in an open debate. But till this day none have dared to come before Bible but keeping themselves in a mummy and dummy stage. Man is very much worried about his future and is taking too much of precautions to save himself but alas! he is in vain. Though every city holds a fire fighters troop they can only arrive after the disaster and water the entire house and to fell down the burned walls. Dear reader if you are a caring person for you and your world then go through the entire topic, which gives you a clear truth regarding all these disaster targeting mankind. Today science is unaware of the precincts of the universe. Speaking about universe the Bible, creator of world says, “ Circle of Universe ”. It takes many more years for the modern science to know that the whole Universe is in a form of a sphere. From second century onwards Ptolemy and many more scientists explained the Geocentric Theory, which was set at naught by many modern scientists. For people like these I would like to give them a tit-for-tat treatment. Human body posses many internal organs among those Brain, Heart and Kidneys play a vital role in keeping man alive. If any of these organs are infected then such person may die of brain and heart attacks if neglected which ultimately results in death. It is to be understood that those organs are not centralized in one’s body and though they exist in various places of human body, their failure may lead the entire body to death. For this the organs are not literally needed to be located in the center of one’s body. In the same manner the whole universe is based on the environment of Earth. If anything worse happens to Earth that might destruct the entire universe. For these situations Earth may not practically be in the center of the universe. Damage to earth may damage the whole universe because the earth is the core for the entire creation. This theory was taught in Bible thousands of years ago before Christ. Amos 9:6 he who builds his lofty palace in the heavens and sets its foundation on the earth, who calls for the waters of the sea and pours them out over the face of the land- the LORD is his name. Job 38:33 Do you know the laws of the heavens? Can you set up [God's] dominion over the earth? The above words justify the geocentric theory in judging the Earth as the key and foundation to the universe. Man living on this centralized Earth is to care for the creator and to lead his life in a safe way, which should not spoil the creation. Modern Science is cautioning many scientists and countries not to spoil the soil and environment. Man with his corrupted ideas is corrupting the system and the cycle of the environment. If any person is infected with fever he will not show interest in eating, drinking and pleasure living. In the same way the effected environment is infected with man’s explorations and is changing its path in giving a pleasant life to man. Man’s lust for new experiments made the environment to heat up resulting in the damage to the Ozone layer near Antarctic causing diseases to mankind. Due to the ultra violet rays streaming down directly towards the snow in those poles the ice is gradually melting causing the raise in the sea level which in turn causing floods and major disasters. In the year 2002 the glacier naming ‘Laurence B’ has melted and started to move towards the Antarctic Ocean. According to the analysis and satellite study the temperature on Earth is gradually increasing every year growing the sea level on earth. Due to the rise in temperature in 1995 and 2002 in Antarctica region many glaciers melted away. ‘Global warming’ is the word which we hear often these days. Man instead of knowing the reason behind his birth is analyzing the universe causing the Earth to warm up with his hectic experiments. If the entire universe is centralized on Earth then for whom the Earth is centralized? I have already given the answer for this question in my previous writing. “Is Man the Core of the Universe?” The entire creation including the Earth is made purely for Man because he is the image of God. The world exists today only for the sake of Man. Without man there is no universe, but man today has forgotten his Heavenly Father, the creator who created everything for the pleasure of his life. What punishment should be imposed on such people? Man has to inhabit the whole Earth and to utilize the fruits of it. He is to inhabit the whole earth according to the will of God. He has every right to delight himself out of its fruits. If man commits a mistake the law punishes him. If the law itself commits crime, then who will judge the law? God, after creating the creation made man and handed over him to the creation to feed His son what all he needs. If man himself departs God then whom would God order to punish him? After the effect of Tsunami modern science is taking only few precautions to save mankind but it cannot stop tsunami from appearing once again. This is a bare fact. Man has to change his way of life after such disasters but not new experiments to stop that. Heb 3:17 And with whom was he angry for forty years? Was it not with those who sinned, whose bodies fell in the desert? Thousands and thousands of dead bodies flocked the cities and shores. All the dead bodies were cremated at once. The uproar reached the pinnacle. Many were buried in the sand itself Thailand and Malaysia are the most effected. Man cannot control the nature until he captures the heart of God. Jer 23:19-20 See, the storm of the LORD will burst out in wrath, a whirlwind swirling down on the heads of the wicked. The anger of the LORD will not turn back until he fully accomplishes the purposes of his heart. In days to come you will understand it clearly. On Christmas Eve, 24th December when many are in busy celebrations disaster suddenly struck them. This disaster shook the countries like India, Srilanka. Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, Singapore etc. The disaster occurred in the sea, if this had occurred on land the death toll would have been much more. Jer 30:23-24 See, the storm of the LORD will burst out in wrath, a driving wind swirling down on the heads of the wicked. The fierce anger of the LORD will not turn back until he fully accomplishes the purposes of his heart. In days to come you will understand this. Recently news was heard on television that parents had murdered their own son and surrendered to police. The statement given by them was “ We want to make many to live happily by murdering our son for his behavior.” What does God do on looking today’s generation? Every human being is indulged in pleasure seeking life but no one is caring to know the will and mind of God. If man rebels on God then He may order the nature to bury him with fury. Luke 19:42-44 and said, "If you, even you, had only known on this day what would bring you peace-but now it is hidden from your eyes. The days will come upon you when your enemies will build an embankment against you and encircle you and hem you in on every side. 44 They will dash you to the ground, you and the children within your walls. They will not leave one stone on another, because you did not recognize the time of God's coming to you." If man transforms his mind and deeds then God may also change his mind from punishing the mankind. In the beginning due to the disobedience of man towards God, He cursed the nature. The curse on man affected the nature. Gen 3:17 To Adam he said, "Because you listened to your wife and ate from the tree about which I commanded you, 'You must not eat of it,' "Cursed is the ground because of you; through painful toil you will eat of it all the days of your life. If man disobeys God nature rebels against him. Jer 5:21-25 Hear this, you foolish and senseless people, who have eyes but do not see, who have ears but do not hear: Should you not fear me?" declares the LORD. "Should you not tremble in my presence? I made the sand a boundary for the sea, an everlasting barrier it cannot cross. The waves may roll, but they cannot prevail; they may roar, but they cannot cross it. But these people have stubborn and rebellious hearts; they have turned aside and gone away. They do not say to themselves, 'Let us fear the LORD our God, who gives autumn and spring rains in season, who assures us of the regular weeks of harvest.' Your wrongdoings have kept these away; your sins have deprived you of good. Man is surrounded by 3/4th of water. All the boundaries are not of cement but only sand. God made boundaries to 1/4th land with sand so that sea may not cross its boundary set forth by God. He ordered the sand to save his children from the water but not to engulf them. But today the sea has crossed its boundary and penetrated dry land to cover them with water partially. It is not a big deal for the 3/4th of water to cover the entire human and submerge them in sea if God permits. The nature obeys the word of God and acts as a protector but if he disobeys God it becomes a destroyer. Man is not caring for God but is high on heels denying God. If man refuses to comply then what does God do? Amos 5:8-9 (he who made the Pleiades and Orion, who turns blackness into dawn and darkens day into night, who calls for the waters of the sea and pours them out over the face of the land- the LORD is his name- he flashes destruction on the stronghold and brings the fortified city to ruin), Ps 104:7-9But at your rebuke the waters fled, at the sound of your thunder they took to flight; they flowed over the mountains, they went down into the valleys, to the place you assigned for them. You set a boundary they cannot cross; never again will they cover the earth. Job 26:12 By his power he churned up the sea; by his wisdom he cut Rahab to pieces. Isa 51:15 For I am the LORD your God, who churns up the sea so that its waves roar--the LORD Almighty is his name. Jer 31:35 This is what the LORD says, he who appoints the sun to shine by day, who decrees the moon and stars to shine by night, who stirs up the sea so that its waves roar--the LORD Almighty is his name: By all the above verses it is very clear that God rebukes His children with nature when they disobey. If nature rebels on man where can he run and hide himself? Though he is more technologically advanced he cannot save himself from the ferocity of nature. Once God destroyed the whole world with water on seeing the wickedness of man and grieved in His heart. He wiped away the entire human race saving only 8 out of them. Gen 6:5, 17 The LORD saw how great man's wickedness on the earth had become, and that every inclination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil all the time. 17 I am going to bring floodwaters on the earth to destroy all life under the heavens, every creature that has the breath of life in it. Everything on earth will perish. Acts 7:4 "So he left the land of the Chaldeans and settled in Haran. After the death of his father, God sent him to this land where you are now living. 2 Peter 2:5 if he did not spare the ancient world when he brought the flood on its ungodly people, but protected Noah, a preacher of righteousness, and seven others; God pays for the wickedness of man with a disciplinary action. Without knowing the exact cause for the calamity science is under experimentation to know the reason of disaster. Man instead of estimating these disasters as wrath of God is adjusting himself as natural calamities. With his minimal knowledge man is explaining Tsunami as the tuning of tectonic plates but never searches himself whether he is in tune with God or not. Volcanic eruptions, floods, earthquakes are defined as natural calamities by man but not as the wrath of God on all His disobedient children. All the learned and unlearned has to accept these words. Now I would like to bring to your notice the marveling word of God unveiling the secrets of universe. Read these words with the eyes of understanding and be enlightened to experience the riches and abundance of the word of God. Now-a-days majority of population in the Christian world have not yet enlightened their minds to know these facts but are confined to the four walls of the church worshipping their lord for an hour or two once in a week. They may not know the worth of truth even if we offer Bible classes at a free of charge. A Bible intellect can evaluate the exact reason for every catastrophe trouncing mankind from the birth of universe. For every disease in a human body these would be a strong reason behind it, in the same way there also might be a strong reason behind for the destruction of Tsunami. To know the exact reason we have to research on the changes that occur in the nature. If a body is infected with a disease, doctor force the patient to undergo many testes to give him the correct cure. The same procedure has to be considered for the universe to know the reason for the calamity. This Biblical explanation in finding the reason for the calamities is to be studied by all the nations, their personnel, scientists and the intellectual society. To protect our only Earth from such catastrophes, seminars are to be conducted by the Bible scholars, which are to be attended by all the intelligentsia of the world. If this does not happen the entire universe may explode to ashes. Today’s modern man is very relaxed that though the earth may explode he is preparing to live on Moon or Mars purchasing flats over there. All such crazy people have to note an important point i.e., as the earth baring the government of the entire universe, if blown up, collapses the entire universe. We all know about diabetic patients. If that disease strikes at toe, it must be removed and if neglected it passes to leg, but if it enters the body then no medicine can save such person. The same way if the earth is infected and destroyed then it might be a danger to the entire universe. So, at present the earth being infected has to be treated carefully. Luke 21:25-26 "There will be signs in the sun, moon and stars. On the earth, nations will be in anguish and perplexity at the roaring and tossing of the sea. Men will faint from terror, apprehensive of what is coming on the world, for the heavenly bodies will be shaken. Ps 18:7 The earth trembled and quaked, and the foundations of the mountains shook; they trembled because he was angry. Judg 5:4 "O LORD, when you went out from Seir, when you marched from the land of Edom, the earth shook, the heavens poured, the clouds poured down water. Isa 13:13 Therefore I will make the heavens tremble; and the earth will shake from its place at the wrath of the LORD Almighty, in the day of his burning anger. By all of the above verses it is very clear that the entire universe is interconnected. Any happenings on earth may influence the powers in the universe. Any actions in universe may ultimately affect the earth. When there are signs in Sun, Moon and Stars then the nations will be in anguish and perplexity at the roaring and tossing of sea occurs on earth. There is an unseen interaction between the earth and sun, sun and stars, stars and galaxies and galaxies and universe. If the world realizes and comes to the Bible after the Tsunami then they may find a way to shun such disasters. The earthly knowledge has to get down few steps and prostrate before the heavenly knowledge to save the world and all the human beings. Please go through few of the Bible references. Ps 148:1-6 Praise the LORD. Praise the LORD from the heavens, praise him in the heights above. Praise him, all his angels, praise him, all his heavenly hosts. Praise him, sun and moon, praise him, all you shining stars. Praise him, you highest heavens and you waters above the skies. Let them praise the name of the LORD, for he commanded and they were created. He set them in place for ever and ever; he gave a decree that will never pass away. Jer 31:35, 37 This is what the LORD says, he who appoints the sun to shine by day, who decrees the moon and stars to shine by night, who stirs up the sea so that its waves roar--the LORD Almighty is his name: 37 This is what the LORD says: "Only if the heavens above can be measured and the foundations of the earth below be searched out will I reject all the descendants of Israel because of all they have done," declares the LORD. The unseen forces between the earth and the universe govern the entire creation. Every defect on earth is only the result of man. Since man being the core of the entire universe for its creation is also liable for its destruction. Every wrong step of man is affecting the earth and the forces within. Every country in the world upholds navy, military and air force to protect them. In the same way the whole universe is governed and protected by various invisible forces within it. Without proper government no society could be run properly. Atheists among the world have to carefully note down this point that no train, bus or aeroplane can run by itself unless the crew drives it. The entire universe cannot run by itself so there is an unseen power, which drives the whole world. To see that power their eyes of brain have to be enlightened by the word of God. Eph 1:17-20 I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know him better. I pray also that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in the saints, and his incomparably great power for us who believe. That power is like the working of his mighty strength, which he exerted in Christ when he raised him from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly realms. Man with his half-baked knowledge is rejecting the existence of the Almighty. The reason for this is 2 Cor 4:4 The god of this age has blinded the minds of unbelievers, so that they cannot see the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God. It is all nothing but blowing a trumpet before a deaf person. Now let us study the various unseen forces within the universe. Sun: - It takes 25 days, 9 hours and 7 minutes for the sun to take one rotation. It revolves around the Milky Way galaxy with a speed of 250 kilometers per hour. The calculation for the sun to take a revolution in its orbit is estimated as 0.25 billion years, which is called as a cosmic year. Planets Mercury: - It takes 58 days, 15 hours, 30 minutes and 34 seconds for one rotation. It revolves around the sun 88 days with a speed of 1 lack 76 thousand kilometers per hour. Venus: - For a rotation it takes 243 hours, 14 minutes and 225 days for a revolution. Earth: - For a rotation 23 hours, 56 minutes and 4,091 seconds (1 day) and 365 days, 5 hours, 48 minutes and 45.51 seconds (1 year) for a revolution. Mars: - For a rotation it takes 24 hours, 37 minutes and 22.633 seconds and 687 days for a revolution. Jupiter: - For a rotation it takes 9 hours, 50 minutes and 30 seconds and 4332.62 days for a revolution. Saturn: - For a rotation it takes 10 hours, 14 minutes and 10759.06 days for a revolution. Uranus: - For a rotation it takes 16 hours, 10 minutes and 30707.79 days for a revolution. Neptune: - For a rotation it takes 18 hours 26 minutes and 60199.63 days for a revolution. Pluto: - For a rotation it takes 6 days, 9 hours and 18 minutes and 248.54 years for a revolution When we look at the pace of visible and invisible matter starting from planets to galaxies they all are running in their orbits and are governed by the super natural power. Vehicles driven by man are always delayed whereas the planetary and the starry hosts of the universe are never late and are accurate in their arrivals and departures. Lazy man has to know all these rotations and revolutions to know the power of Almighty who safeguards His beloved ones. All the starry hosts are run not by the power of man but by the supremacy of God. Man is interested to know the news and happenings all around the world daily in the morning but never reads Bible to know the hidden secrets of the universe. This topic must be eye opener to all such blind people. Heb 6:5-8 who have tasted the goodness of the word of God and the powers of the coming age, if they fall away, to be brought back to repentance, because to their loss they are crucifying the Son of God all over again and subjecting him to public disgrace. Land that drinks in the rain often falling on it and that produces a crop useful to those for whom it is farmed receives the blessing of God. But land that produces thorns and thistles is worthless and is in danger of being cursed. In the end it will be burned. Even the believers are searching Christ and God only for their carnal pleasures but never estimate the power of Christ in proving His existence. Col 1:15-17 He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. For by him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things were created by him and for him. He is before all things, and in him all things hold together. 1 Peter 3:22 who has gone into heaven and is at God's right hand-with angels, authorities and powers in submission to him. Rom 8:38-39 For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord. 1 Cor 15:24 Then the end will come, when he hands over the kingdom to God the Father after he has destroyed all dominion, authority and power. Eph 1:20-21 which he exerted in Christ when he raised him from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly realms, far above all rule and authority, power and dominion, and every title that can be given, not only in the present age but also in the one to come. Christ is invincible in controlling the power existing in the universe. By His lordship the entire creation is bound and governed by His laws. If such all-powerful Christ is denied then a catastrophe may hit the mankind to know his fury. What are these Powers? : - Within no time the disaster struck the people creating chaos all around the effected cities. Geographical boundaries of areas have been changed. Dec 26th 2004 has become a tragic day in the history of mankind. Thousands and thousands have lost their lives. The Tsunami left its trails after its effect. 1. Two huge icebergs hit one another causing harm to Penguins. 2. North pole moved towards east Siberia to a distance of 2.5 cms. 3. The earths pace in rotation caused delay in speed up to 2.68 microseconds. 4. The effect of Tsunami caused vibrations for few weeks extending 20 – 30 cms. 5. The Tsunami changed the Geographical outlook of Asian continent permanently. Few islands have moved nearly 20 meters. The changes in heavenly bodies cause the Earth to change its outlook. The above examples are few of them. Though man is hit by such disaster he never tends to change his heart towards God but still take pleasure in denying the laws of God. Rom 1:27 In the same way the men also abandoned natural relations with women and were inflamed with lust for one another. Men committed indecent acts with other men, and received in themselves the due penalty for their perversion. Rev 6:14 The sky receded like a scroll, rolling up, and every mountain and island was removed from its place. Bible explained the reasons for such halaucosts, which engulf man. But man never turns his heart towards God and pleads to save him from such situations. He never corrects his way and pleases God to show love towards him. Man instead of correcting is preparing future plans to save himself from Mega Tsunami. Until he changes his mind Metropolitan cities will be transformed into forests and graveyards. I warn these people in advance to bow down before the Lord to be shown grace and mercy because He is the only protector and annihilator. Our heavenly Father is feeding every man with those powers and if rebelled He orders the same forces to destroy him. Isa 14:12 How you have fallen from heaven, O morning star, son of the dawn! You have been cast down to the earth, you who once laid low the nations! Isa 14:16-17 Those who see you stare at you, they ponder your fate: "Is this the man who shook the earth and made kingdoms tremble, the man who made the world a desert, who overthrew its cities and would not let his captives go home?" Joel 2:3 Before them fire devours, behind them a flame blazes. Before them the land is like the Garden of Eden, behind them, a desert waste- nothing escapes them.
Is it possible to 'fake your own death' in this day and age ? I know I know, all the 'trouble' one would ahve to go through - the careful planning as to cover any ' ? ' and doubts over your tragic untimely demise heh. now lets just say somebody with an abundance of $$$ decided that he/she would fake their own death. I'm positive that there are remote regions on earth, which can be lived on but aren't inhabited yet - where such an individual could potentialy pull this off. Can Russia or Americas most sophisticated image mapping/scanning satellite imaging systems catch you ANYWHERE on the globe ? b/s surely they can't - if u don't agree, then I have 3 words for you scepticals. Osama Bin Laden. lol. my sub question is - if u planned everything carefuly, where would you live and would you be able to look law enforcers in the eye calmly each time you had a run in with them ? conclusion: faking your death in this day and age is near impossible. but what do you think ? can it be theoretically possible ?
Hey Fernando! is this essay good enough for english class? The echolocation properties of the magnificent whale may be inhibited by the latest innovations in neoteric imaging, according to the May 23rd edition of the New York Times. This article was written by Meylin Hanoi. Whales are becoming more and more disoriented as more techonology lays its cold, metal hand across the earth. Machines grip nature in their cold, metal hands and destroy it in one fell sweep. Whales are now unable to locate themselves among the cold, metal hands of science. The armaggedon cometh, and the satellite waves interfere with the whale's ability to navigate the rough waters being destroyed by the cold, metal hands of science. I don't know what to do about this. I am very sad about this. I want to join an activist group, but my brother won't let me. This article was very informative. It taught me that whales were being interfered with by the cold, metal hands of science. I learned a lot from this article. It taught me how to live, love, and learn. I learned a lot for this article. The first person who answered this question is G to the A Y
Did you see the new resolution? I happened to discover this week the new image resolution Google Earth is using. What if you discover an almost high resolution pic of your home in the internet? Wouldn´t you feel concerned about the implications? That is what happened to me. Now, I live outside the USA. My place is called Aguascalientes. If watching my home deatails was a shock consider what I have JUST found. I don´t spend a lot of time on Google Earth but THAT kind of resolution is there only for my city! I have not watched a lot of other third world countries but not even Mexico City, Caracas or Guadalajara have such an extreme resolution! Should I be glad the satellites have such a sharp eye over my house and they are sending away the pics for all to see?
is it just me or???are we out there??? is it just me or does anyone else believe that theres a likelyhood and the chances are that some where in the cosmos, there's a planet out there with a similar habitat as earth (maybe with some living species), plants, pure h20 etc.????? ive read that the hubble telescope satellite is still travelling deeper into space, therefore taking images farther and farther away every time and has reported undiscovered galaxies.
Don't believe Al Gores Hype!? Don't Believe the Hype Al Gore is wrong. There's no "consensus" on global warming. BY RICHARD S. LINDZEN Sunday, July 2, 2006 12:01 a.m. EDT According to Al Gore's new film "An Inconvenient Truth," we're in for "a planetary emergency": melting ice sheets, huge increases in sea levels, more and stronger hurricanes, and invasions of tropical disease, among other cataclysms--unless we change the way we live now. Bill Clinton has become the latest evangelist for Mr. Gore's gospel, proclaiming that current weather events show that he and Mr. Gore were right about global warming, and we are all suffering the consequences of President Bush's obtuseness on the matter. And why not? Mr. Gore assures us that "the debate in the scientific community is over." That statement, which Mr. Gore made in an interview with George Stephanopoulos on ABC, ought to have been followed by an asterisk. What exactly is this debate that Mr. Gore is referring to? Is there really a scientific community that is debating all these issues and then somehow agreeing in unison? Far from such a thing being over, it has never been clear to me what this "debate" actually is in the first place. The media rarely help, of course. When Newsweek featured global warming in a 1988 issue, it was claimed that all scientists agreed. Periodically thereafter it was revealed that although there had been lingering doubts beforehand, now all scientists did indeed agree. Even Mr. Gore qualified his statement on ABC only a few minutes after he made it, clarifying things in an important way. When Mr. Stephanopoulos confronted Mr. Gore with the fact that the best estimates of rising sea levels are far less dire than he suggests in his movie, Mr. Gore defended his claims by noting that scientists "don't have any models that give them a high level of confidence" one way or the other and went on to claim--in his defense--that scientists "don't know. . . . They just don't know." So, presumably, those scientists do not belong to the "consensus." Yet their research is forced, whether the evidence supports it or not, into Mr. Gore's preferred global-warming template--namely, shrill alarmism. To believe it requires that one ignore the truly inconvenient facts. To take the issue of rising sea levels, these include: that the Arctic was as warm or warmer in 1940; that icebergs have been known since time immemorial; that the evidence so far suggests that the Greenland ice sheet is actually growing on average. A likely result of all this is increased pressure pushing ice off the coastal perimeter of that country, which is depicted so ominously in Mr. Gore's movie. In the absence of factual context, these images are perhaps dire or alarming. They are less so otherwise. Alpine glaciers have been retreating since the early 19th century, and were advancing for several centuries before that. Since about 1970, many of the glaciers have stopped retreating and some are now advancing again. And, frankly, we don't know why. The other elements of the global-warming scare scenario are predicated on similar oversights. Malaria, claimed as a byproduct of warming, was once common in Michigan and Siberia and remains common in Siberia--mosquitoes don't require tropical warmth. Hurricanes, too, vary on multidecadal time scales; sea-surface temperature is likely to be an important factor. This temperature, itself, varies on multidecadal time scales. However, questions concerning the origin of the relevant sea-surface temperatures and the nature of trends in hurricane intensity are being hotly argued within the profession. Even among those arguing, there is general agreement that we can't attribute any particular hurricane to global warming. To be sure, there is one exception, Greg Holland of the National Center for Atmospheric Research in Boulder, Colo., who argues that it must be global warming because he can't think of anything else. While arguments like these, based on lassitude, are becoming rather common in climate assessments, such claims, given the primitive state of weather and climate science, are hardly compelling. A general characteristic of Mr. Gore's approach is to assiduously ignore the fact that the earth and its climate are dynamic; they are always changing even without any external forcing. To treat all change as something to fear is bad enough; to do so in order to exploit that fear is much worse. Regardless, these items are clearly not issues over which debate is ended--at least not in terms of the actual science. A clearer claim as to what debate has ended is provided by the environmental journalist Gregg Easterbrook. He concludes that the scientific community now agrees that significant warming is occurring, and that there is clear evidence of human influences on the climate system. This is still a most peculiar claim. At some level, it has never been widely contested. Most of the climate community has agreed since 1988 that global mean temperatures have increased on the order of one degree Fahrenheit over the past century, having risen significantly from about 1919 to 1940, decreased between 1940 and the early '70s, increased again until the '90s, and remaining essentially flat since 1998. There is also little disagreement that levels of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere have risen from about 280 parts per million by volume in the 19th century to about 387 ppmv today. Finally, there has been no question whatever that carbon dioxide is an infrared absorber (i.e., a greenhouse gas--albeit a minor one), and its increase should theoretically contribute to warming. Indeed, if all else were kept equal, the increase in carbon dioxide should have led to somewhat more warming than has been observed, assuming that the small observed increase was in fact due to increasing carbon dioxide rather than a natural fluctuation in the climate system. Although no cause for alarm rests on this issue, there has been an intense effort to claim that the theoretically expected contribution from additional carbon dioxide has actually been detected. Given that we do not understand the natural internal variability of climate change, this task is currently impossible. Nevertheless there has been a persistent effort to suggest otherwise, and with surprising impact. Thus, although the conflicted state of the affair was accurately presented in the 1996 text of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, the infamous "summary for policy makers" reported ambiguously that "The balance of evidence suggests a discernible human influence on global climate." This sufficed as the smoking gun for Kyoto. The next IPCC report again described the problems surrounding what has become known as the attribution issue: that is, to explain what mechanisms are responsible for observed changes in climate. Some deployed the lassitude argument--e.g., we can't think of an alternative--to support human attribution. But the "summary for policy makers" claimed in a manner largely unrelated to the actual text of the report that "In the light of new evidence and taking into account the remaining uncertainties, most of the observed warming over the last 50 years is likely to have been due to the increase in greenhouse gas concentrations." In a similar vein, the National Academy of Sciences issued a brief (15-page) report responding to questions from the White House. It again enumerated the difficulties with attribution, but again the report was preceded by a front end that ambiguously claimed that "The changes observed over the last several decades are likely mostly due to human activities, but we cannot rule out that some significant part of these changes is also a reflection of natural variability." This was sufficient for CNN's Michelle Mitchell to presciently declare that the report represented a "unanimous decision that global warming is real, is getting worse and is due to man. There is no wiggle room." Well, no. More recently, a study in the journal Science by the social scientist Nancy Oreskes claimed that a search of the ISI Web of Knowledge Database for the years 1993 to 2003 under the key words "global climate change" produced 928 articles, all of whose abstracts supported what she referred to as the consensus view. A British social scientist, Benny Peiser, checked her procedure and found that only 913 of the 928 articles had abstracts at all, and that only 13 of the remaining 913 explicitly endorsed the so-called consensus view. Several actually opposed it. Even more recently, the Climate Change Science Program, the Bush administration's coordinating agency for global-warming research, declared it had found "clear evidence of human influences on the climate system." This, for Mr. Easterbrook, meant: "Case closed." What exactly was this evidence? The models imply that greenhouse warming should impact atmospheric temperatures more than surface temperatures, and yet satellite data showed no warming in the atmosphere since 1979. The report showed that selective corrections to the atmospheric data could lead to some warming, thus reducing the conflict between observations and models descriptions of what greenhouse warming should look like. That, to me, means the case is still very much open. So what, then, is one to make of this alleged debate? I would suggest at least three points. First, nonscientists generally do not want to bother with understanding the science. Claims of consensus relieve policy types, environmental advocates and politicians of any need to do so. Such claims also serve to intimidate the public and even scientists--especially those outside the area of climate dynamics. Secondly, given that the question of human attribution largely cannot be resolved, its use in promoting visions of disaster constitutes nothing so much as a bait-and-switch scam. That is an inauspicious beginning to what Mr. Gore claims is not a political issue but a "moral" crusade. Lastly, there is a clear attempt to establish truth not by scientific methods but by perpetual repetition. An earlier attempt at this was accompanied by tragedy. Perhaps Marx was right. This time around we may have farce--if we're lucky. Mr. Lindzen is the Alfred P. Sloan Professor of Atmospheric Science at MIT.
Anyone intrested in writing a two page summary of this? FIBER KEEPS ITS PROMISE BY GEORGE GILDER "Today, I await the death of television, telephony, VCRs, and analog cameras with utter confidence as Moore's law unfolds." Rupert Murdoch, Ted Turner, John Malone, are you listening?" Get ready. Bandwidth will triple each year for the next 25, creating trillions in new wealth. Editor's note: Four years ago, Forbes ASAP published its first issue with a stunning prophecy by contributing editor George Gilder. Fiber optics, said George, had the potential to carry 25 trillion bits per second down a single strand. This represented a ten-thousandfold leap in carrying capacity over the 2.5 billion bits "barrier" long assumed by most experts in the field. What did George see that others had missed? One, a little-recognized (at the time) breakthrough called an erbium-doped amplifier, which keeps optical signals pure and strong over long distances. The other was a deep technical shift, with roots in the 1940s-era work of information theory pioneer Claude Shannon. If you believed Shannon, his logic dictated a new messaging scheme called wave division multiplexing. Though scorned by the experts four years ago, WDM now is emerging as the winner George had prophesied. The real winners will be all of us, as the coming world of cheap, unlimited bandwidth unfolds and at last fulfills the true potential of the information age. Here is George with an update. IMAGINE THAT IN 1975 YOU KNEW that Moore's law--the Intel chairman's projection of the doubling of the number of transistors on a microchip every 18 months--would hold for the rest of your lifetime. What if you knew that these transistors would run cooler, faster, better, and cheaper as they got smaller and were crammed more closely together? Suppose you knew the law of the microcosm: that the cost-effectiveness of any number of "n" transistors on a single silicon sliver would rise by the square of the increase in "n." As an investor knowing this Moore's law trajectory, you would have been able to predict and exploit a long series of developments: the emergence of the PC; its dominance over all other computer form factors; the success of companies making chips, disk drives, peripherals, and software for this machine. With a slight effort of intellect, you could have extended the insight and prophesied the digitization of watches, records (CDs), cellular phones, cameras, TVs, broadcast satellites, and other devices that can use miniaturized computer power. If you did not know precisely when each of these benisons would flourish, you would have known that each one was essentially inevitable. To calculate approximate dates, you had only to guess the product's optimal price of popularization and then match its need for mips (millions of instructions per second) of computer power with the cost of those mips as defined by Moore's law. Merely by using this technique of Moore's law matching--and holding to it with unshakable conviction for nearly 20 years--I became known as a "futurist." Today I await the death of television, telephony, VCRs, and analog cameras with utter confidence as Moore's law unfolds. You can tell me about the 98% penetration of TVs in American homes, the continuing popularity of couch-potato entertainments, the effectiveness of broadcast advertising, and the profound and unbridgeable chasm between the office appliance and the living-room tube. But I will pay no attention. Just you wait--Jack Welch, Ted Turner, Rupert Murdoch, John Malone, and David Jennings--the TV will die and you may be too late for the Net. It is now 1997, and a stream of dramatic events certifies that another law, as powerful and fateful and inexorable as Moore's, is gaining a similar sway over the future of technology. It is what I have termed the law of the telecosm. Its physical base lies in the same quantum realm of eigenstates and band gaps that governs the performance of transistors and also makes photons leap and lase. But the telecosm reaches beyond components to systems, combining the science of the electromagnetic spectrum with Claude Shannon's information theory. In essence, as frequencies rise and wavelengths drop, digital performance improves exponentially. Bandwidth rises, power usage sinks, antenna size shrinks, interference collapses, error rates plummet. The law of the telecosm ordains that the total bandwidth of communications systems will triple every year for the next 25 years. As communicators move up-spectrum, they can use bandwidth as a substitute for power, memory, and switching. This results in far cheaper and more efficient systems. In 1996, the new fiber paradigm emerged in full force. Parallel communications in all-optical networks became the dominant source of new bandwidth in telecom. Like Moore's law, the law of the telecosm will reshape the entire world of information technology. It defines the direction of technological advance, the vectors of growth, the sweet spots for finance. AMERICA'S DARK SECRET FOR MORE THAN A DECADE, American companies have been laying optical fiber strands at a pace of some 4,000 miles a day, for a total of more than 25 million strand miles. Five years ago, the top 10% of U.S. homes and businesses were, on average, a thousand households away from a fiber node; now they are a hundred households away. However, the imperial advance of this technology conceals a dark secret, which has led to a pervasive underestimation of the long-term impact of photonics. Sixty percent of the fiber remains "dark" (unused for communications) and even the leading-edge "lit" fiber is being used at less than one ten-thousandth of its intrinsic capacity. This problem has prompted leaders in the industry, from Bill Gates and Andy Grove to Bob Metcalfe and Mitch Kapor, to underrate drastically the impact of fiber optics. Restricting the speed and cost-effectiveness of fiber has been an electronic bottleneck and a regulatory noose. In order for the signal to be amplified, regenerated, or switched, the light pulses had to be transformed into electronic pulses by optoelectronic converters. For all the talk of the speed of light, fiber-optic systems therefore could pass bits no faster than the switching speed of transistors, which tops out at a cycle time of between 2.5 and 10 gigahertz. Meanwhile, telecom companies could not deploy new low-cost fiber products any faster than the switching speed of politicians and regulators, which tops out roughly at a cycle time of between 2.5 years and a rate of evolution measurable only by means of carbon 14. Nonetheless, the intrinsic capacity of every fiber line is not 2.5 gigahertz. Nor is it even 25 gigahertz, which is roughly the capacity of all the frequencies commonly used in the air, from AM radio to kA band satellite. The intrinsic capacity of every fiber thread, as thin as a human hair, is at the least one thousand times the capacity of what we call the "air." One thread could carry all the calls in America on the peak moment of Mother's Day. One fiber thread could carry 25 times more bits than last year's average traffic load of all the world's communications networks put together: an estimated terabit (trillion bits) a second. Over the last five years, technological breakthroughs and legislative loopholes have begun to open up this immense capacity to possible use. Following concepts pioneered and patented by David Payne at the University of Southampton in England, a Bell Laboratories group led by Emmanuel Desurvire and Randy Giles developed a workable all-optical device. They showed that a short stretch of fiber doped with erbium, a rare earth mineral, and excited by a cheap laser diode can function as a powerful amplifier over fully 4,500 gigahertz of the 25,000 gigahertz span. Introduced by Pirelli of Italy and popularized by Ciena Corporation of Savage, Maryland, and by Lucent and Alcatel, today such photonic amplifiers are a practical reality. Put in packages between two and three cubic inches in size, the erbium-doped fiber amplifiers (EDFAs) fit anywhere in an optical network for enhancing signals without electronics. This invention overcame the most fundamental disadvantage of optical networks compared to electronic networks. You can tap into an electronic network as often as desired without eroding the voltage signal. Although resistance and capacitance will leach away the current, there are no splitting losses in a voltage divider. Photonic signals, by contrast, suffer splitting losses every time they are tapped; they lose photons until eventually there are none left. The cheap and compact all-optical amplifier solves this problem. It is an invention comparable in importance to the integrated circuit. Just as the integrated circuit made it possible to put an entire computer system on a single sliver of silicon, the all-optical amplifier makes it possible to put an entire system on a seamless seine of silica--glass. Unleashing the law of the telecosm, it makes possible a new global economy of bandwidth abundance. Five years ago when I first celebrated the radical implications of erbium-doped amplifiers, skepticism reigned. I was summoned to Bellcore, where the first optical networks had been built and then abandoned, to learn the acute limits of the technology from Charles Brackett and his team. I had offered the vision of a broadband fibersphere--a worldwide web of glass and light--where computer users could tune into favored frequencies as readily as radios tune into frequencies in the atmosphere today. But Brackett and other Bellcore experts told me that my basic assumption was false. It was no simpler, they said, to tune into one of scores of frequencies on a fiber than to select time slots in a time-division-multiplexed (TDM) bitstream. Indeed, electronic switching technology was moving faster than optical technology. In the face of the momentum and installed base of electronic switching and multiplexing, the fibersphere with hundreds of tunable frequencies would remain a fantasy, like Ted Nelson's Xanadu. In 1997 the fantasy is coming true around the world. Xanadu has become the World Wide Web. The erbium-doped fiber amplifier is an explosively growing $250 million business. Electronic TDM seems to have topped out at 2.5 gigabits a second. TDM gear has suffered a series of delays and nagging defects and so far has failed in the market. Electronic TDM failed not only because it pushed the envelope of electronics but also because it violated the new paradigm. In single-mode fiber, the two key impediments are nonlinearities in the glass and chromatic dispersion (the blurring of bit pulses because even in a single band different frequencies move at different speeds). Chromatic dispersion increases by the square of the bit rate, and the impact of nonlinearities rises with the power of the signal. High-powered, high-bit-rate TDM flunked both telecosm tests. By contrast, wavelength-division multiplexing (WDM) follows the laws of the telecosm; it succeeds by wasting bandwidth and stinting on power. WDM takes some 33% more bandwidth per bit than TDM, but it reduces power to combat nonlinearity and divides the bitstream into multiple frequencies in order to combat dispersion. Thus it can extend the distance or increase capacity by a factor of four or more today and can lay the foundations for the fibersphere tomorrow. In 1996 the new fiber paradigm emerged in full force. Parallel communications in all-optical networks, long depicted as a broadband pipe dream, crushed all competitors and became the dominant source of new bandwidth in the world telecom network. The year began with a trifold explosion at the Conference on Optical Fiber Communication in San Jose when three companies--Lucent Technologies' Bell Labs, NTT Labs, and Fujitsu--all announced terabit-per-second WDM transmissions down a single fiber. Sprint confirmed the significance of the laboratory breakthroughs by announcing deployment of Ciena's MultiWave 1600 WDM system, so called because it can increase the capacity of a single fiber thread by 1,600%. The revolution continues in 1997. At the beginning of January, NEC declared that by increasing the number of bits per hertz from one to three, it had raised the laboratory WDM record to three terabits per second. During 1996, MCI had increased the speed of its Internet backbone by a factor of 25, from 45 megabits a second to 1.2 gigabits. On January 6, Fred Briggs, chief engineering officer at MCI, announced that his company is in the process of installing new WDM equipment from Hitachi and Pirelli that increases the speed of its phone network backbone to 40 gigabits per second. Accelerating MCI's previous plans by some two years, the new system will use a more limited form of wavelength-division multiplexing to put four 10-gigabit in-cause formation streams on a single fiber thread. The first deployment will use existing facilities on a 275-mile route between Chicago and St. Louis, but the technology will be extended to the entire network. This move will consummate a nearly thousandfold upgrade of the MCI backbone, from 45 megabits per second to 40 gigabits, within some 36 months. Ciena, meanwhile, has announced technology that allows transmission of 100 gigabits per second. Its February IPO was the most important since Netscape (market cap at the end of the first trading day: $3.4 billion). Why? Ciena is the industry leader in open standard WDM gear. During the first six months the MultiWave 1600 was available, through October 1996, the firm achieved $54.8 million in sales and $15 million in net income. (Lucent is believed to be the overall leader with more than $100 million of mostly proprietary AT&T systems.) At the same time, the trans-Pacific consortium announced that it would deploy 100-gigabit-per-second fiber in its new link between the United States and Asia. A powerful new player in these markets will be Tellabs, currently the fastest-growing supplier of electronic digital cross-connect switches and other optical switching gear. In a further coup, following its purchase of broadband digital radio pioneer Steinbrecher, Tellabs has signed up all 12 principals in IBM's all-optical team. Headed by Paul Green, recent chairman of the IEEE Communications Society and author of the leading text on fiber networks, and by Rajiv Ramaswami, coauthor of a new 1997 text on the subject, the IBM group built the world's first fully functioning all-optical networks (AONs), the Rainbow series. Tellabs now owns the 11 AON patents and 100 listed technology disclosures of the group. The implications of the WDM paradigm go beyond simple data pipes. The greatest impact of all-optical technology will likely come in consumer markets. A portent is Artel Video Systems of Marlborough, Massachusetts, which recently introduced a fiber-based WDM system that can transmit 48 digital video channels, 288 CD-quality audio bitstreams, and 64 data channels on one fiber line. Aggregating contributions from a variety of content sources--each on different fiber wavelengths--and delivering them to consumers who tune into favored frequencies on conventional cable, the Artel system represents a key step into the fibersphere. It can be used for new services by either cable TV companies or telcos. The deeper significance of the Artel product, however, is its use of bandwidth as a replacement for transistors and switches. The Artel system works on dark fiber without compression. The video uses 200-megabit-per-second bitstreams (compare MPEG2 at 4 to 6 megabytes per second) that permit lossless transmissions suitable for medical imaging, and obviate dedicated processing of compression codes at the two ends. A move to massively parallel communications analogous to the move to parallel computers, all-optical networks promise nearly boundless bandwidth in fiber. According to Ewart Lowe of British Telecom, whose labs at Martlesham Heath in Ipswich have been a fount of all-optical technology, the new paradigm will reduce the cost of transport by a factor of 10. For example, the optoelectronic amplifiers previously used in fiber networks entailed nine power-hungry bipolar microchips for each wavelength, rather than a simple loop of doped silica that covers scores of wavelengths. As these systems move down through the network hierarchy, the growth of network bandwidth and cost-effectiveness will not only outpace Moore's law, it will also excel the rise in bandwidth within computers--their internal "buses" connecting their microprocessors to memory and input-output. While MCI and Sprint move to deploy technology that functions at 40 gigabits a second, current computers and workstations command buses that run at a rate of close to 1 gigabit a second. This change in the relationship between the bandwidth of networks and the bandwidth of computers will transform the architecture of information technology. As Robert Lucky of Bellcore puts it, "Perhaps we should transmit signals thousands of miles to avoid even the simplest processing function." Lucky implies that the law of the telecosm eclipses the law of the microcosm. Actually, the law of the microcosm makes distributed computers (smart terminals) more efficient regardless of the cost of linking them together. The law of the telecosm makes broadband networks more efficient regardless of how numerous and smart are the terminals. Working together, however, these two laws of wires and switches impel ever more widely distributed information systems, with processing and memory in the optimal locations. WHAT SHOULD THE MAJOR PLAYERS DO NOW? FOR THE TELEPHONE COMPANIES, the age of ever smarter terminals mandates the emergence of ever dumber networks. Telephone companies may complain of the large costs of the transformation of their system, but they command capital budgets as large as the total revenues of the cable industry. Telcos may recoil in horror at the idea of dark fiber, but they command webs of the stuff 10 times larger than any other industry. Dumb and dark networks may not fit the phone company self-image or advertising posture. But they promise larger markets than the current phone company plan to choke off their own future in the labyrinthine nets of an "intelligent switching fabric" always behind schedule and full of software bugs. Telephone switches (now 80% software) are already too complex to keep pace with the efflorescence of the Internet. While computers become ever more lean and mean, turning to reduced instruction-set processors and Java stations, networks need to adopt reduced instruction-set architectures. The ultimate in dumb and dark is the fibersphere now incubating in their magnificent laboratories. The entrepreneurial folk in the computer industry may view this wrenching phone company adjustment with some satisfaction. But computer firms must also adjust. Now addicted to the use of transistors to solve the problems of limited bandwidth, the computer industry must use transistors to exploit the nearly unlimited bandwidth. When home-based machines are optimized for manipulating high-resolution digital video at high speeds, they will necessarily command what are now called supercomputer powers. This will mean that the dominant computer technology will first emerge not in the office market but in the consumer market. The major challenge for the computer industry is to change its focus from a few hundred million offices already full of computer technology to a billion living rooms now nearly devoid of it. Cable companies possess the advantage of already owning dumb networks based on the essentials of the all-optical model of broadcast and select--of customers seeking wavelengths or frequencies rather than switching circuits. Cable companies already provide all the programs to all the terminals and allow them to tune in to the desired messages. But the cable industry cannot become a full-service supplier of telecommunications unless the regulators give up their ridiculous two-wire dream in which everyone competes with cable and no one makes any money. Cash-poor and bandwidth-rich, cable companies need to collaborate with telcos--which are cash-rich and bandwidth-poor--in a joint effort to create broadband systems in their own regions. In all eras, companies tend to prevail by maximizing the use of the cheapest resources. In the age of the fibersphere, they will use the huge intrinsic bandwidth of fiber, all 25,000 gigahertz or more, to simplify everything else. This means replacing nearly all the hundreds of billions of dollars' worth of switches, bridges, routers, converters, codecs, compressors, error correctors, and other devices, together with the trillions of lines of software code, that pervade the intelligent switching fabric of both telephone and computer networks. The makers of all this equipment will resist mightily. But there is no chance that the old regime can prevail by fighting cheap and simple optics with costly and complex electronics and software. The all-optical network will triumph for the same reason that the integrated circuit triumphed: It is incomparably cheaper than the competition. Today, measured by the admittedly rough metric of mips per dollar, a personal computer is more than 2,000 times more cost-effective than a mainframe. Within 10 years, the all-optical network will be thousands of times more cost-effective than electronic networks. Just as the electron rules in computers, the photon will rule the waves of communication. I know people would not write it..But worth a try:)

Creationists? Scietists have said we have never written a peer reviewed paper, or been in a sciene journal... That's because the world won't let us. *Question* Does this make you feel all warm and cozy inside? Om, I know what you are saying but that was not the point, the point was that we are not all dumb as you think we are. This is not the complete list.
