What is the best camera for aerial photography at night that is $300 or less? I am a private pilot and like to take a lot of aerial photos from my plane. I am looking a recommendation for a digital camera that would work well taking photos at night. Since I can not use a flash, my goal is to have enough light gathering capability to have clear images. Additionally, since I can not use a tripod, it will be necessary to use a fast shutter speed. Ideally, I would also like to avoid grainy images that are common with high speed film. Is this too much to ask? What would you recommend? Again, for under $300 or so. Thanks
Have any of you been to Anniston Army Depot and/or are good with aerial photography? I have a single aerial photograph of Anniston Army Depot and am hoping to construct a model of the railroad operations on this base. I was wondering if any of you had better photographs of the base rail facilities and/or would be able to provide me with more details from the aerial photo. http://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&um=1&ie=UTF-8&q=Anniston+Army+Depot&fb=1&split=1&gl=us&cid=0,0,13256188318000757384&ei=YvCOSdXiL5KasAPZx-yOCQ&sa=X&oi=local_result&resnum=1&ct=image I enjoy constructing model trains and have recently begun considering constructing, from scratch, a train of DODX (department of defense railroad) flatcars. http://www.trainweb.org/marcrailfan/dodxflat2.html These railcars are apparently used to transport military equipment from around the country to Anniston Army Depot in Georgia where the equipment undergoes major repairs and upgrades. Once I have a decent number of these railcars, I was hoping to construct a scaled down version of Anniston Army Depot (I’ll likely build a layout that is only large enough to accommodate a portion of the 7 sidings and leave a switch leading to the others in case I ever want to build them) so that I could use the cars to make deliveries to the base. Furthermore, once the base is complete, I’d hope to construct a DODX 25 ton or 44 ton switcher to handle the switching within the base. http://www.rrpicturearchives.net/showPicture.aspx?id=1037617 http://www.rrpicturearchives.net/showPicture.aspx?id=884628 Unfortunately, I only have one picture of the base itself and it’s an aerial photo. Would any of you be able to help me identify more details from the aerial photograph or actually have some ground level photographs of the bases rail facilities??? http://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&um=1&ie=UTF-8&q=Anniston+Army+Depot&fb=1&split=1&gl=us&cid=0,0,13256188318000757384&ei=YvCOSdXiL5KasAPZx-yOCQ&sa=X&oi=local_result&resnum=1&ct=image Specifically, what are the dimensions of the workshops that line the tracks? What would these buildings look like at ground level? Is there any kind of gate or security separating the base siding from the railroad mainline? If there is, what would it look like? Finally, what would the two large buildings on the south side of Roosevelt drive look like-what are there dimensions??? Any other information you could give me on this railroad operation would be greatly appreciated.

How can I find an old mine shaft on my property? I'm looking for an old mine that I know exists on my ranch, which is about 15 acres. I was wondering if there's anything on the internet, google earth etc., that can aid me in my search. I recently read how archeologists are using special aerial photography devices to find underground pyramids and caves and was wondering if that could help me. Cost is an issue, as I don't want to spend a fortune on this. Any ideas or advice would be great!

Aerial shots questions...equipment, pricing, etc.? This is what we are looking for-- any equipment that can be mounted to the side of an airplane (two seater, private airplane) and be connected to a laptop or some type of screen. We fly over the selected area and I can click a button via monitor/button I have and take the shot. Is there any equipment like that, or is there something else that would make excellent photography of aerial shots via airplane? Also, pricing--how much should each aerial shot cost if we had a decent quality and decent shot? My grandfather wants 45 dollars a picture. I don't know if that is fair or not, as I am not familiar with the market. If you could provide any information that would be helpful to aerial photos & etc, it would be greatly appreciated via email or via answer. Thank you! First & 3rd answer--no help whatsoever. We know about FAA. Thanks. And it isn't even me who is wanting to do this, my grandfather finds an interest in it and I was supposed to be collecting information. Thanks anyway.

What should I major in when I go to college? I want to be a photographer and I know that I could major in that, but I read this on the National Geographic website: "National Geographic photographers have college degrees in a variety of disciplines. Most did not major in photography, but all took photo courses. The most common majors have been journalism, anthropology, sociology or psychology, fine arts, and sciences. Our editors and photographers agree that it is important to complete a degree in a discipline other than photography. Freelancers usually come to us with at least five years of photojournalism experience or with specializations such as wildlife, underwater, nature, or aerial photography. We seek balance and an eclectic blend of interests, abilities, and photographic styles in the freelancers we hire." It's my dream to be a photographer for National Geographic, so what should I do?
anyone see the launch for BBC Alba (Scotland) ? a bit cheesey (Runrig's Alba song), but some of the time lapse photography and aerial photography is stunning. All progs are subtitled in english. Yeah -it's low budget but some interesting documentaries
how can i become a commercial helicopter pilot and still attend a 4 year university? Art is my passion and I would love to major in art, but from further research I have found that my only options are either teaching or involve a computer. I would like to avoid computers if possible. I also need something active that won't put me behind a desk. Becoming a commercial helicopter pilot sounds interesting and I've seen photography incorporated into it in aerial photography. Does anyone know a way I can do this and attend a 4 year university also? Oh and my boyfriend is in the military.. I'm not interested in the USAF.

Mechanical Turk, Satellite Photo, Steve Fossett, need help? Not sure what category to put this in, put it in photography but thinking that might have been wrong. Anyway, here's the question I posted there: I'm at Amazon's Mechanical Turk site working on the Steve Fossett thing, viewing satellite pictures to try to find his plane. However , even though they provide some tips and example photos of cars and the size of the plane. I'm curious if anyone else is doing this and if they have a clue about this type of thing. I don't want to hit yes on a bunch of stuff that is just rocks, know what I mean? I am looking for some advice and sample pics of ones you hit yes on would be even better! From someone who might have some knowledge or experience in viewing these types of aerial photos and identifying what they're looking at. I know there's probably not many people on here with that kind of expertise, but tips/thoughts from anyone else who's doing it would be cool too. Thanks in advance. mturk.com/mturk/welcome The Mechanical Turk site gives you a file to download which has new photos which were collected specifically for the Steve Fossett search. So yes, they are old photos if you are using google earth alone without the update, or without going to mturk.com
Joining The Marines as a Combat Photographer But Thinking of !Force Recon!? Hello. I'm considering the military.USMC to be specific. I want to do something I enjoy in order to better serve. I see that only the Marines offer any sort of photography job I'd like.(Air force has aerial, right? Not interested.) Link: http://www.military.com/Recruiting/JobPageDesc/1,11939,enlisted|5218||20%2021%2025%2028%2036%2045%2047%2049%2051,00.html I was also interested in Special Ops. Marines Have force recon. I've heard that you could 'try out' and if you weren't up to snuff you could do something else. Could I enlist for force recon and then train for Combat Photography if I can't make it,Or train for combat photography and then go Recon if I had the right stuff? I might not even get that far though. I have a very loving mother who keeps telling me that she wants me to go Air Force because any other branch will guarantee death on my part.Either from her or from enemy fire... Thanks

If you got any tips on photography, feel free to share them cuz i might need them :) oh and it's almost winter here, so im not sure whether you can go on one when it's too cold... and if you can help me come up with a good title for this project, you get credit =)
What should I photograph for an assignment titled "Uncovering the hidden in the familiar"? I take a class a 35mm black and white film class at ICP and we've gotten out first take home photo shoot assignment. the full assignment is: "Uncovering the hidden in the familiar"- Photograph something you see everyday in a new way. Use different angles, compositions, and points of view. I enjoy candid portraits and wildlife photography the most so I thought of doing something with animal paws at an interesting angle with maybe macro to enhance the composition? I also had an idea of an aerial view of someone or a group of people standing in a local field that's lush with trees but I don't have a helicopter handy so I don't think it's a realistic idea. Does anyone have any ideas that I could possibly use to help me pick subjects to shoot?
Whats the best digital camera? I want a cam with the most Shooting modes, 10mp or more, fastest shutter speed, very good macro, flash built in, good auto focus, digital zoom is worthless, most optical zoom, good for fast moving photography. i want night settings, star setting, pet, landscape, Custom image parameters. no more than 1k for the cam. basically i want what i have in my Lumix Panasonic DMC-LZ7, but with better optical, MP, lens. 6x optical, 7.2 MP, 1:2.8-4.5/6.1-36.6 ASPH. portrait, soft skin, scenery, sports, night portrait, night scenery, food, party, candle light, sunset, baby, pet, high scenery, beach, starry sky, fireworks, snow, aerial photo. any way to get a cam with twice as much power than the one i have but for only $500 or so? i don't want to down grade from 6x optical zoom. when i see the image on the display, i wanna see it as big and up close as possible. i'm kinda leaning to a cam that i can have a very good macro lens with and be able to switch it out for one to see far off. most people seem to want the smallest and cutest, but i don't care if its bigger n ugly, as long as the images turn out amazing. my current cam does a very good job, but i'm always wanting something even better. so i wanna find one that skips a few upgrades so i won't wanna get another cam for years to come. Canon EOS Rebel XSi (450D), Canon EOS 30D, Canon EOS 40D, Canon EOS 50D, Nikon D300, Sony DSLR-A700, Sony ALPHA DSLR-A350, Olympus E-3, Fuji S5 Pro, Nikon D60, Pentax K200D, Pentax K20D, Sigma SD14, Sigma SD14, Sony ALPHA DSLR-A700 these i'v found, some are really good. but what do you guys think?
